Brian got up from the floor. His eye was swelling, his face was bruised, and his wrist was twisted at an awkward angle, completely
unusable.
“You could have at least aimed somewhere less obvious. Going for the face? Really?”
Isabelle let out a sigh of relief, but looking at Brian, he did appear genuinely pitiful. It looked painful just to see him.
“Surprise is the most effective element, isn’t it?” Damian replied coolly.
Isabelle punched his arm. “Don’t come up with schemes like that again. Who even thinks of that?”
“Getting paid and getting to hit someone? It was an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Damian said, shaking his phone slightly. He called out to Brian, “Hey, if this works, my consulting fee next time is twenty grand.”
Brian was speechless.
That line sounded familiar. Brian had said something very similar once.
That was back in October last year, when Isabelle had gotten drunk. He’d given Damian the advice to just take her home and make his move, no hesitation.
Right now, Brian had no grounds for complaint.
He had a strong feeling Damian was settling old scores, but he had no proof.
Just how much had Brian squeezed out of Damian in the past to make him go to these lengths, reclaiming every transferred cent?
Brian tasted bitterness. He’d been too mercenary back then.
At noon, Brian didn’t join them for lunch. Damian and Isabelle went with Stefan and his wife.
Brian headed to the emergency room instead.
Damian was also fluent in Nyxarian, so his conversation with Stefan flowed smoothly without barriers.
Stefan had originally come to commission clothing for his wife, but he ended up hitting it off so well with amian that they began discussing a potential business collaboration.
They were exploring expanding the autonomous vehicle division into the Nyxaria market.
Creating a transportation link between the two countries.
This was a major venture.
Meanwhile, Isabelle chatted with Hazel about fashion and the lighter side of society life.
She occasionally glanced over at the men.
Damian’s business acumen was truly formidable. Isabelle’s understanding of him deepened another level.
“Your husband is remarkably handsome and a shrewd businessman. You two make an excellent match,” Hazel remarked, though

her own gaze kept drifting fondly toward Stefan.

Isabelle didn’t correct the term. Simply smiling, “It’s true. Meeting him was the lucktest turn my life could have taken.”
“His eyes haven’t left you. Even mid–sentence, he keeps looking over, as if he’s afraid I might spirit you away,” Hazel teased. Isabelle picked up her wine glass, clinked it gently against Hazel’s, and took a small sip.
“He can be terribly possessive,” she said.
“Possessive means he cherishes you.”
The lunch lasted a full two hours.
In the end, they arranged for a car to take Stefan and his wife back to their hotel to rest and adjust to the time difference.
Outside the upscale restaurant, Isabelle had a man leaning heavily against her as she pulled out her phone to call their driver.
“Stop the act. This little bit of wine isn’t enough to get you drunk,” Isabelle said, shrugging her shoulder to dislodge his head.
The first time she’d caught him feigning drunkenness was in the garage of the Grand Palace. That night, she’d even slapped him.
She remembered it clearly.
But back then, he hadn’t been so bold. He’d only pretended to be drunk, not like later, when he seemed to find any excuse to kiss her.
Damian chuckled, his breath warm and faintly scented with wine against her ear. He straightened up and wrapped an arm firmly around her waist.
“Can’t I try to get a little sweetness?”
“No. You’d better behave.”
She was accustomed to Damian’s audacity by now. Give him an opening, and he’d kiss you for minutes right there on the sidewalk.
Especially after a drink or two–his boldness seemed to multiply.
Her own sense of public propriety wasn’t that flexible; she couldn’t do such a thing.
Damian’s lips curved into a knowing smile.
As soon as they returned to the penthouse, they found Lucas waiting by the private elevator entrance.
Damian’s eyes darkened.
“Hey, Isabelle,” Lucas greeted with a nod.
isabelle returned the greeting with a soft hum and a smile.
“Go inside and rest for a bit,” Damian said softly, ruffling her hair.
