broad chest, listening to the steady rise and fall of his breathing. Even lost in sleep, his arm slid around h to pull her close.

The next morning, Isabelle woke up because her arm was ‘completely dead asleep under a heavy weight. Damian was using her arm as his pillow, his other arm thrown possessively around her waist, his body curled into hers. The rough stubble on his jaw was scratching her skin. His head felt like a sack of rocks. cutting off all the feeling in her limb.

“Damian…” she whispered.

He stirred, pulling her even closer. He shifted his head from her arm, only to bury his face in the front of her shirt instead, settling into a new spot.

Oh, for crying out loud.

She managed to work her numb arm free, but now the rest of her was pinned. Isabelle laid her free hand on the solid swell of his shoulder. A beam of morning sun sliced into the room, illuminating the sun- kissed skin of his shoulder blade. It looked rugged and intensely male, a sharp contrast against the white cotton sheets.

All at once, she was wide awake.

She just lay there, taking in the sight. Her fingers gently smoothed through his hair, a faint smile on her lips. Her slender hand trailed down the smooth, defined muscles of his back, and she could almost feel a faint tremor under her fingertips. It was the kind of physique she saw in magazines.

“Finally get a break after the IPO, and you’re up at the crack of dawn.” His sleep–roughened voice grumbled against her.

“You’re awake?” she asked, giving his cheek a little squeeze.

“Mmm–hmm…”

Later, Isabelle stood in front of him, fixing his tie. His hands rested on her waist, his fingers giving her idle teasing squeezes.

“I’ve gotta go overseas at the end of the month. Might be gone for two, three weeks,” Damian said, his voice still a little gravelly, full of that recently–satisfied, lazy warmth.

Isabelle felt a sudden, sharp twist of loneliness. Ever since they’d gotten married, they’d hardly spent a night apart. The idea of him being gone for that long left a hollow spot right in the middle of her chest

She made a small, non–committal sound, focusing on getting the the just right before carefully fastening the tie clip.

“It’s the project with Steven. You know him. Don’t worry, my pants are staying on Belt’s not coming off for anyone.” Damian added, clearly picking up on her shift in mood.

Isabelle pressed her lips together, fixing him with a stern look. “You even think about undoing that belt. and I’ll have someone on a plane to take care of you before you know what hit you.”

“Such a tough talker,” he chuckled, giving her waist another squeeze. “Don’t worry. Not a chance

A shiver ran through Isabelle, a familiar heat tightening low in her stomach. She let out a slow/controlled breath.

“I’ll call you every day. You just be a good girl and hold down the fort here,” he promised.

“I know,” she said, trying to keep the wistfulness out of her voice. Damian was a workaholic, she knew that. But no matter how slammed he was, he always carved out time for her. He did everything right.

“When I get back, we can get serious about that baby,” he said, a grin tugging at his lips. “Use these next few weeks to catch up on your rest…”

“Since when are you so talkative? You haven’t even left. We’ll discuss it when you’re back,” Isabelle said, feeling her ears grow hot. She didn’t get why, even after all this time, he could still make her blush like this

“I’m gonna miss you,” he said, his voice dropping to something softer. He gave her cheek a gentle pinch. “If you didn’t have your own project wrapping up, we could’ve snuck in a mini–vacation. Two weeks without… It’s gonna be rough.”

“I never knew you were so…” she started, the word “needy” hovering, but she bit it back. Truth was, he’d always been like this.

“I’m so what, huh?” Damian asked, tilting his head with a teasing smile, watching her face closely.
