“I’ve got harsher things I haven’t even said yet,” Jonathan retorted, shooting her a sudden, sharp loo
Sophia didn’t dare say another word.
Jonathan was someone who meant what he said.
He walked away angrily, leaving a shaken Sophia behind.
She felt deeply hurt. Not only did her own brother take someone else’s side, but he was also willing t her–without holding back at all.
What was so special about Isabelle anyway?
After stepping away, Jonathan noticed Abigail approaching from across the lawn.
She was wearing a loose light–blue dress, a gentle smile on her lips. Jonathan.”
Jonathan pushed aside his earlier expression and walked toward her, smiling as he wrapped an arm around her waist. “Why didn’t you rest a little longer?”
“Woke up hungry and couldn’t get back to sleep. I heard Damian’s back,” Abigail said, softly touching h stomach.
“Yeah, Damian had someone bring over those desserts you liked last time,” Jonathan replied, his gaze drifting toward Damian and Isabelle under the large oak tree.
The two were deep in conversation, the spring breeze brushing past them, making the whole scene lool warm and picture–perfect.
“When are you planning to tell them?” Jonathan asked, glancing at her belly.
“Let’s wait until after the first trimester. It still doesn’t feel very steady right now,” Abigail said, leaning int his embrace.
“Alright, that works,” Jonathan chuckled, holding her a little closer.
Damian sat beside Isabelle, stretching one leg out behind her to act as a backrest.
“Here, try this,” Isabelle said, scooping a spoonful and holding it up to him.
Damian smiled and took the bite.
Back at Christmas, they were in this same spot, but he hadn’t gotten this kind of treatment then. Now, he was finally being fed by her.
“You’re smiling kind of mischievously. What’s on your mind?” Isabelle couldn’t help teasing.
“Mischievous? That’s a bit strong.” Damian said with a faint grin.

“How would you describe it, then?” Isabelle didn’t give him a chance to answer, putting another spo into his mouth. “Cunning? Straight–up?”
Damian reached over and gently brushed her cheek. “You could say impressive…”
Isabelle quickly shoved another bite into his mouth to cut him off.
“Let’s not go there,” she murmured.
Damian grinned, happily accepting each spoonful she offered.
“About your family’s situation… Want me to step in?” Damian asked.
“You have something in mind?”
“Naturally. I’m just worried my wife won’t make use of me, leaving her husband feeling pretty useless.
Isabelle perked up with interest. “What’s your idea?”
“I’ll keep it under wraps for now. I need to talk to your grandfather about it first. But this time, let me handle it. Trust me–you don’t have to carry everything yourself. You’ve got a husband now. I’m your support, and I’m solid. You know that better than anyone.”
Solid…
The setup was actually pretty touching, but those last words carried a certain suggestive weight.
Isabelle paused for a moment, then gave a slight nod.
He’d said something similar back during the Celeste incident. He always moved quickly and decisively. “You two are just laying on the sweetness, nonstop,” Jonathan remarked as he walked over with Abigail. He bent down, helped Abigail slip off her flats, and she stepped barefoot onto the picnic blanket. Damian couldn’t help but be impressed–Jonathan, that sly fox, still had some game. “Who’s laying it on thicker isn’t exactly clear,” Damian scoffed, eyeing the overly attentive man.
“Abigail,” Isabelle greeted.
“Isabelle,” Abigail replied, settling down across from them.
Jonathan sat beside her, picked up a dessert, unwrapped it, and made to feed her.
Damian and Isabelle watched them like they were enjoying a show.
These two had clearly come over to flaunt their own affection while trying to outdo everyone else’s.
Abigail didn’t let him feed her, taking the spoon herself to eat.
