Jonathan wasn’t one to make empty threats.

Hearing his words, Sophia trembled, and tears began to stream down silently.

“Was this idea suggested to you by Ashley?” Jonathan’s tone was accusing as he studied her closely.

Sophia stayed silent, which was as good as a confession.

Jonathan knew it had to be her.

Ashley and Sophia had known each other for years.

“No discussion. Go back to your room. You’re going abroad in a couple of days,” Jonathan finished, standing up. Then, as if remembering something, he added, “And if you don’t fix that attitude of yours, don’t even think about coming back–ever.”

Sophia dropped to her knees with a thud, clutching Jonathan’s pant leg.

“Jonathan, give me one more chance. I don’t want to go abroad. I don’t care about Grandpa’s inheritance anymore–let them have it. Please, don’t make me leave…”

Jonathan pulled his leg away and said coldly, “Grandpa’s inheritance was never really ours to begin with. The fact that he’s willing to divide it at all is more than we deserve! If he’d only left it to Mom and Caroline, you wouldn’t have gotten a thing!”

Sophia broke into loud, ragged sobs.

Jonathan yanked her up and dragged her out of the room, pulling her back down the hall to her own bedroom.

“Sophia, even if Grandpa gave you his entire stake, with your judgment you’d run it into the ground in less than a year. Just focus on your studies. If you actually apply yourself, I might still be able to help you someday. But if you keep acting like this, once Mom and Dad are gone, no one’s going to clean up your mess.”

He said this firmly, behind closed doors.

After finishing, Jonathan opened the door and left, slamming it hard behind him.

He couldn’t understand how anyone could come up with such a reckless plan–it was downright humiliating for the whole family.

Sophia stared at the tightly shut door, resentment and bitterness welling up inside.

She didn’t want to go abroad. She wanted that inheritance!

Before Isabelle came back, Christian had assured them he would leave everything to her family.

After leaving the room, Jonathan went downstairs to the first floor.

Damian was sitting on the sofa, talking on the phone. When he saw Jonathan coming down, he ended the call.

“Sorry about the scene,” Jonathan said, rubbing his temples.

Damian didn’t bring up what had just happened. Jonathan would handle it—it likely had to do with the family stakes anyway.

He didn’t want to make things harder for Jonathan, who was clearly in a difficult position.

Damian asked, “Is my sister pregnant?”

“How did you know?”

“I’ve been reading up on that kind of thing lately,” he said, a slight smile touching his lips.

Jonathan nodded meaningfully. “It’s still early. Only a few people know. We’ll talk more when the time is right.”

Damian had pretty much guessed as much.

“By the way, have you heard anything about Ashley recently?” Jonathan asked.

Damian shook his head.

He hadn’t seen or heard from her in a long time. Even hearing her name put him on edge.
