Chapter 284 A Late Night Visitor
Collin also reached out, his hand steadying her elbow.
Isabelle jolted awake instantly, straightened up, offered Collin a small, polite smile and a nod of thanks, then carefully withdrew
her arm.
“Ding”
The elevator doors slid open.
Diana guided Isabelle down the hall to her room.
“Call me if you need anything,” Collin said, repeating the same line from earlier.

Summoning the last of her composure, Isabelle pretended she was fully alert. “Don’t worry; Diana’s here. I’ll be fine. Thank you!
“Collin, you can head back now. I’ve got her. It’s late–you should probably go check on Linda first.” Diana said, guiding Isabelle into the room but positioning herself firmly in the doorway, clearly indicating she did not expect Cottin to follow them inside.
Collin nodded, murmured an agreement, and turned to leave.
Diana carefully closed the door and helped Isabelle settle onto the sofa. Sure enough, there was a cup of honey water on the coffee
table.
But she didn’t let Isabelle drink it. She poured it down the sink and called room service to bring a fresh one.
“These official dinners are really the worst,” Isabelle mumbled, rubbing her temples.
Why did everything these days seem to hinge on social drinking?
She remembered Damian’s exhausted state during their call the day before and felt a pang of heartache. She wondered if he had managed to get any proper rest yet.
“They really are,” Diana agreed with a grimace, opening the door to take the new honey water from the server.
Isabelle drank it down in a few grateful gulps.
“Do you want me to stay?” Diana asked.
“No need,” Isabelle replied. She wasn’t that far gone.
“Alright then, I’ll head to my room.”
Diana didn’t want to overstay, figuring Isabelle might want some privacy–perhaps to make a call.
Sure enough, after Diana left, Isabelle took a quick shower, changed into soft pajamas, and video–called Damian.
Damian was in the middle of late–night negotiations with his team and Stefan. She didn’t say a word, just lay in bed quietly watching him.
Watching this man completely absorbed in his work.

He had propped his phone on the conference table, so from ber angle she could mainly see his throat and that sharp, defined
jawline.
Every so often, Damian would glance at the small screen, watching her eyelids grow he jer until she gradually drifted off.
He couldn’t bring himself to end the call even after the meeting finally adjourned.
By the time the last participant left, Isabelle was already deep in sleep.
Damian kept the call connected as he gathered his things and headed back to his hotel suite.
Seeing her flushed cheeks and remembering her text earlier about attending a dinner, the fact that she’d passed out mid–call told him she must have had more to drink than usual.
“Mr. Cross, the meeting with Arthur is confirmed for nine tomorrow morning. Did you want to…” Dylan entered the living area of the suite, laptop in hand.
“Shh…” Damian raised a hand, signaling him to be quiet and not disturb his sleeping wife on the phone.
Dylan promptly closed his mouth and retreated.
Damian worked quietly on his laptop while Isabelle slept soundly on the other side of the world–until an untimely knock sounded at her hotel room door.
Damian’s gaze snapped to the phone screen.
She stirred, the knocking causing a faint frown to crease her brow even in sleep.
Who could that be at this hour? And right in the middle of a good dream too–really ruining the moment.
She didn’t get up, but three more persistent knocks followed.
She let out a soft sigh, muttering something indistinct under her breath.
A faint, amused smile touched Damian’s lips.
This woman really had quite the temper when her sleep was interrupted–how had he never fully noticed that before?
screen.
“You’re still there?” Isabelle’s eyes fluttered open to see that devastatingly handsome face still on her screen.
“Mm. Don’t want to see me?” Damian’s grin was lazy and charming.
Isabelle pouted, a sleepy smile tugging at her lips. “I do. I really do!”
She checked her phone–the battery was perilously low.
“How much?” he asked, a teasing glint in his eyes.
“Enough that it’s a genuine shame you can’t teleport back right now,” she shot back, feigning annoyance.
She pushed herself up and walked unhurriedly toward the door, peering through the security peephole. Her brows knitted together.
“Who is it?” Damian asked, immediately noting the shift in her expression. Clearly, whoever was outside wasn’t a welcome sight,

“Collin,” she said softly. “Don’t say anything. I’m not opening it. I’m going back to sleep”
