Chapter 289 An Unusual Bodyguard
Collin was truly at a loss for wards.
At nine–thirty, Collin finally insisted that Isabelle head back to get some rest.

“Mr. Dorfman, the doctor said the topical medication should be applied before sleeping. Would you like me to assist you?” Bruce. asked, his tone neutral.
“That won’t be necessary.”
Collin turned his face toward the window, refusing to look at him.

“Not applying the medication could impede recovery. With a back injury like this if you were to have a partner in the future, you might find that-”
He really knew which nerve to hit.
There was a woman standing right there!
Discussing something so personal so bluntly–he had his pride to consider.
Sure, it was just his back that was injured, but that didn’t imply any issues with his physical capabilities or stamina
“If you’re uncomfortable with it, perhaps you could wait for your assistant to arrive and have him help?” Isabelle suggested from where she stood.
There was no way she could perform such a task herself. The hospital had staff for this–it definitely shouldn’t fall to her.
Collin could only nod, a flicker of embarrassment crossing his features.
“Then get some rest early. I’ll come by to see you tomorrow.” Isabelle pressed her lips together, feeling a touch awkward.
Collin had saved her twice now. With none of his family around, he had to spend the night alone in the hospital. It did seem rather pitiful.
“Alright, you get some proper rest too.”
Isabelle walked out.
Bruce settled back into the armchair in the corner and made no move to leave.
Collin frowned. “Why are you still here?”
୮
Bruce replied matter–of–factly, “You got hurt because of the missus. Of course, I have to stay here and ensure you’re properly looked after.”
Personally ensure he was looked after?
That was completely unnecessary.
“Get out.”

Sellin pointed at the door, not bothering to conceal his irritation any longer.
“But there’s no proper seating out in the hall. Those chairs are hard and cold,” Bruce mumbled, almost to himself.
What did that have to do with him?
“If you won’t leave, should be the one to go?” Collmm’s temper was rising.
How could there be someone in the world so utterly impervious to hints?
This was a once–in–a–lifetime encounter.

Bruce appeared to ponder this for a moment, then asked, “If you left, could I sleep in the bed?”
Someone, please take this man away! Anyone else would be preferable–just not him.
Where on earth had Damian found this bodyguard?
How could someone like this even qualify for the job?

Collin was on the verge of being driven to distraction!
It seemed Bruce was determined to stay planted in the hospital room, and there was no dislodging him.
Meanwhile, Isabelle checked into a hotel a few blocks from the hospital. Her luggage had been brought over by Collin’s assistant.
She had just finished showering and was lying in bed when Damian’s video call came through.
“You’re sure you’re not hurt? Nothing feels off?” Damian had just woken up not long ago. A light stubble shaded his jaw, and his hair looked slightly tousled, as if it needed a trim.
“I’m fine.” She had, in fact, explained everything in detail in the long message she’d sent Damian.
But as soon as Damian woke up and opened his phone, the first lines he saw mentioned a rack falling and her being underneath it. He hadn’t had time to read the full context yet.
He studied the person on the screen intently. She looked unharmed.
He let out a slow breath, then minimized the video window to scan the rest of her messages.
Besides Isabelle’s texts, there was also a security report video from Bruce.
“How’s he doing?” The words came out before he could stop them. “I mean, how is Collin?”
Isabelle paused. “He injured his back. They did X–rays–no fractures, but there’s significant bruising and swelling…”
She recounted the day’s events.
A cold chill ran down Damian’s spine as he listened.
Her written summary had been far too understated.
Damian walked into the suite’s bathroom.

Today, he was scheduled to visit Arthur’s private studio.
He sent a quick follow–up instruction to Bruce, then felt settled enough to head out.
The message Bruce received was succinct. “Ensure he recovers, but not too comfortably.”
When Collin’s personal assistant finally arrived, Bruce was sprawled across the room’s small sofa, snoring with a volume that competed with their conversation.
The moment the assistant stepped in, it felt like he’d entered a locker room
