Isabelle didn’t dare make a sound, but his kiss left her weak. In her ear, he whispered gently. “It’s been over three months. Maybe we can try tonight?”
He even knows about that?
Isabelle’s fingers curled slightly. She buried her face in his chest.
Damian smiled, stroking her hair, “It’s okay. I can wait a little longer.”
He couldn’t bring himself to rush her.
The car stopped in a parking spot near the dessert shop.
Gary got out and walked to a tree not far from the car, his gaze occasionally drifting back to the black Cullinan.
He pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, expertly placed one between his lips, then seemed to remember something and silently put it back in the box.
He looked at the car again.
Inside, Damian glanced at Isabelle, leaning on his shoulder. She had fallen asleep at some point during the short ride.
He carefully shifted her head to the side and was about to get out to buy the dessert himself when the movement woke her.
“Wait in the car?” Damian asked.
Isabelle looked around, noticing the car had stopped, and Gary was no longer inside.
She yawned. “I’ll come with you.”
“Done sleeping?”
“Done.”
Her drowsiness gone, she got out. Damian followed.
He straightened his clothes and saw Gary standing under the tree.
“Mr. Peterson, sorry to keep you waiting.” Damian said with a faint smile.
Isabelle glanced at Gary but didn’t engage. She remembered the bet he’d made with his

friends back in school. Now, seeing him in that faded blue driver’s vest…
Karma’s a bit slow, but it got him.
Gary nodded, avoiding eye contact.

Damian put an arm around her shoulders, holding her a little closer. “What do you want?”
“The one you bought me the first time,” Isabelle said, looking up at him.
The first time Damian bought her dessert was that night she was stuck at the office, and the two of them stayed in the president’s office until the early hours.
It was also the night Isabelle began her revenge against Gary.
When she tasted the dessert Damian bought her that night, it felt incredibly sweet. And it wasn’t just the dessert-it was that feeling of something good finally coming through after all the dullness, just like now.
Damian nodded. They stood together at the counter.
“One hot dessert, please,” Damian said.
“You’re not getting any?” Isabelle asked.
“You won’t finish it. I’ll end up eating the rest. I don’t want our kid to see a chubby dad.” He pinched her soft cheek playfully.
Isabelle laughed and swatted his arm.
Her appetite was small, but she got hungry easily. Damian always ended up finishing her leftovers. With his reduced activity lately, he’d probably gained some weight.
The shop owner smiled.
He hadn’t seen them in a while. Running into them this late was a pleasant surprise.
Looks like things are going well for them.
From a distance, Gary watched them. A flicker of something-maybe relief-passed through his distant gaze.
A faint smile touched his lips.
Just then, Harper called, asking when he’d be back. She’d made a late-night snack for him.
“I’ll be home after this run. Don’t wait up. If you’re tired, go to bed,” he said gently.

After a brief chat, he hung up.
Damian and Isabelle walked back with the dessert bag.

Gary got back in the car, started the engine, and turned on the air conditioning in advance.
The car arrived at the estate.
Gary’s heart clenched slightly.
Last year, this estate was just abandoned land when it was auctioned. In barely half a year, Damian had transformed it into something out of a dream.
Isabelle had once shared her visions of the future with him, too. He’d never paid attention.
Damian really cherishes her.
The car stopped. James opened the door. Damian and Isabelle walked toward the villa, talking and laughing.
Gary took his folding electric scooter from the trunk and handed the keys to James. He took one last look at their retreating figures, gave a quiet smile, and rode away.
“You seem to be in a good mood today,” Damian said.
“Do I?” she smiled, settling on the sofa with the dessert. “Maybe after tasting plain fare, savoring something refined feels especially wonderful.”
Damian chuckled, carrying a glass of water to sit beside her. “Who’s the ‘something refined’? And how are you savoring them?”
Isabelle laughed, leaning back against a cushion and placing her legs across his lap.
Damian set the glass down and began massaging her legs naturally.
He didn’t ask how she felt about seeing Gary. It didn’t matter anymore. Seeing him again, her feelings had completely changed.
The last time she’d seen him, he was on a stretcher.
Damian focused on rubbing her calves and loosening her ankles.
“Tired today?” Damian asked, noticing how quickly she’d fallen asleep in the car.
“Not really. Just sleepy,” she murmured, placed the half-finished dessert on the table, and slid down to lie halfway on the sofa, her knees resting over Damian’s legs.
