She walked into the inner strite, closed the door behind her, and set the box of Buffalo wings on the dining table. Letting out a tired sigh, she sank back into the sofa cushions.
After staying up so late last night–and then being worn out by him–she was completely drained. Before she knew it, she had dozed off right there on the couch, still hugging a throw pillow.
Sometime later, the suite door opened quietly. A pair of polished dress shoes stepped inside.
His footsteps were soft, careful not to wake the woman curled up asleep on the sofa. He walked over, a slight smile touching his lips as he reached down and brushed his fingertips over her warm, flushed cheek. Her blonde hair was spread out across the cushion behind her.
The scene reminded him so much of last year, during that overseas fashion week–the first time they had really lived together. Back then, she’d lain on the sofa too, watching him with wary eyes as if he were some kind of predator. She’d kept her guard up, not even letting him kiss her.
Now here she was, asleep on the sofa again.
Damian just watched her for a moment, then slowly leaned down and pressed his lips gently to hers.
Isabelle stirred awake, her eyes fluttering open. She lifted her hand and touched the corner of her mouth.
“You…”
“Hmm?” Damian raised a brow, studying her. Was she still refusing to let him kiss her?
Isabelle pushed herself up slowly, putting a little space between them.
“Do I have bad breath or something?” Damian asked, genuinely puzzled. He breathed into his own palm. Didn’t seem like it.
It wasn’t that. Damian’s breath was fine–but Isabelle was nursing a quiet frustration she couldn’t quite shake.
“What’s going on?” Damian asked, his tone softening into a smile. “Still upset about last night?”
He’d gotten a little carried away with his hands, holding her so tightly it hurt. Afterward, she hadn’t even let him rub the sore spots.
r “No.” Isabelle opened her mouth to say more, but the words stuck in her throat.
His thing for car models was in the past. Ever since they’d gotten together, she hadn’t seen Damian order any, and he hadn’t crossed any lines. Bringing it up now would probably just sound like she was picking a fight over nothing.
She felt herself relax. “Let it go,” she told herself. That was then. No use dwelling.
“I brought you some Buffalo wings. Want to try them?” Isabelle got up and tugged his hand toward the dining table.
“How’d you know I like these?” Damian asked, smiling as he took a seat. It had been a while since he’d had any.
“Bruce mentioned it. He said you like spicy food, so I got the extra–hot version for you.”
A faint, knowing smile played on Isabelle’s lips as she slid the extra–spicy portion toward him.

He looked down at the wings coated in fiery sauce. He recognized these peppers–he used to come here with Abigail all the time. The extra–hot glaze had a deeper, almost angry red color compared to the regular or mild ones. This was definitely the top heat
level.
Was she… trying to make a point?
“I thought you didn’t like these, Damian said carefully.
“I never said that.”
He fell quiet, seeming to turn something over in his mind.
Damian frowned, picked up a disposable fork, snapped it open, and rubbed the tines together to smooth out any rough edges before handing it to her. Then he opened another set for himself.
Isabelle watched his practiced movements. He was clearly no stranger to this–he must have eaten these often before. Though now that she thought about it, she’d never actually seen Damian eat Buffalo wings in front of her.
“How come I’ve never seen you have these before?” Isabelle asked.
Damian took a bite. The heat hit him instantly, making his eyes sting.
Isabelle grinned and passed him a napkin. “Spicy enough for you?”
“It’s fine,” he said, though his voice was already tightening.
No spicier than those car models.
Isabelle just shook her head, happily digging into her own portion, looking completely satisfied.
She’d always assumed Damian wouldn’t go for food like this. It had never occurred to her that he liked it so much. Guess she didn’t have to avoid eating them around him anymore.
“I thought you didn’t like them,” Damian said, his voice rough from the heat. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you eat them.”
“I’ve always liked them,” Isabelle said between bites, then glanced at him. “Before… did you even notice what I liked?”
“Hmph.” Damian let out a low, humorless sound that carried a touch of irritation
He pushed the extra–spicy wings aside and started helping himself to hers.
“Hey–I thought you liked it spicy. Why are you eating mine?” Isabelle protested, guarding her food with her hand.
