“How are you feeling today? Any more discomfort?” Damian reached over and felt her forehead with the back of his hand.

“None. I broke a sweat during the night and felt completely fine when I woke up this morning” Isabelle leaned into him, nestling comfortably into his embrace.

Damian had been awake long after she fell asleep last night and was already gone when she woke. It felt like it had been too long since she’d simply soaked in his warmth.

“Has the company been keeping you busy lately?” Isabelle asked.

Logically, with Barry and Wilbur handling operations, things at Cypher Group should have been stable recently, so his workload shouldn’t have been overwhelming.

Isabelle finally understood. So that was why Damian had been poring over Foster Group documents so much recently, and why Christian’s former special assistant, Victoria, had been seen working from Cypher Group offices. It all made sense now.

Isabelle looked concerned. “Do you think Sophia will actually go work at the company?”

“Even if she chose to do nothing for the rest of her life, the trust your grandfather left her is more than enough to retire on comfortably, starting today.”

Damian continued, “Your grandfather loved Sophia very much, you know. Look–he kept the buy–back option for the shares open. If Sophia is smart, she’ll work hard, build her skills, and come back to me later to reclaim her stake. Then no one could ever look down on her again.”

“Grandfather really thought of everything,” Isabelle murmured.

“You and Grandfather were scheming for so long without letting me in? You’re both quite the plotters. You even dared to keep it from your own wife!”

Isabelle put on a look of mock accusation.
