Lynn looked at him and gave a short, dry laugh. She suddenly found Lucas rather endearing.

“We could’ve bought a ton of snacks with 10,000 dollars, and you just gave it to her.” Lynn said

Lucas remained silent. So, is that a yes? Is she staying?

“You’re not mad at me?” Lucas asked.

Lynn gave a cold smirk. “Of course I am. You’d better watch out. I’m definitely going to make you pay for this before the wedding!”

“Why before the wedding?”

Lucas wouldn’t have minded if it were after the wedding. In fact, he secretly hoped Lynn would be more proactive with him then.

“Hitting you after the wedding counts as domestic abuse. Getting arrested isn’t worth it,” Lynn said,

pouting.

Lucas chuckled.

An awkward silence settled between them.

Lucas said, “About earlier… I’m sorry.”

Lynn had thought they would either pretend it never happened or just never bring it up again. She never expected Lucas would dare mention it.

He just had to go there.

“Well, I’m going to take a shower,” Lucas said.

Lynn wasn’t used to his gentleness. It instantly melted her anger.

“Okay,” she replied.

Lucas said, “Goodnight.”

Lynn replied, “Goodnight.”

Lucas walked into the walk–in closet, grabbed some clothes, and headed to the bathroom to shower.

While he was in the shower, Lynn quickly applied the burn ointment to herself.

He was right. It didn’t hurt, but the skin was red. It would probably start stinging today or tomorrow.

Lynn already felt a slight burning sensation as she applied it. Thankfully, the ointment was cool and soothing.

By the time Lucas came out of the bathroom, Lynn was already sound asleep.

She really trusts me. Well, not like she has much choice.

Lucas stood by the bed, looking at her. He reached out and brushed a few stray strands of hair away from her neck. The faint love bite he’d left earlier was clearly visible.

A satisfied smile touched his lips.

He took a spare blanket from the closet and headed for the study, fully intending to sleep there.

However, in the middle of the night, Lynn–who’d been sleeping soundly–suddenly felt the mattress dip beside her. The covers were lifted, and a cool body slid into bed next to her.

She cracked her eyes open slightly. It was Lucas.

She closed them again.

Suddenly, her eyes flew wide open. She practically jumped, accidentally tumbling off the bed with a thud.

“Ouch-”

Lynn scrambled to her feet, staring at Lucas.

“What are you doing here? Weren’t you sleeping in the study?”

Lucas placed his pillow firmly in the middle of the bed. “The AC in the study is broken. It’s way too hot. Can we just share for tonight?”

“The AC broke at a very convenient time,” Lynn said, rubbing her sore hip as she stood by the bed, looking at him suspiciously.

I might be willing to “share,” but I’m not so sure about your intentions.

“If you dare touch me tonight, I can call off the engagement with you all over again tomorrow,” Lynn said through gritted teeth.

Lucas gave a soft laugh. He lifted the covers, signaling for her to lie down.

Lynn couldn’t argue. She got back into bed and turned over, giving him her back.

Lucas peeked over at her, past the pillow barrier. This still counts as sharing a bed.

Early the next morning, Lynn was curled up on top of Lucas, mumbling in her sleep.

“Lucas… don’t kiss me…”

It was clearly a dream.

Lucas was woken by her. He realized his chest had gone completely numb from her using him as a pillow.
