Chapter 589 Misunderstandings and Desires
Lynn didn’t hesitate–she got up immediately and followed Lucas out.
He took her hand naturally, slowing his pace as they walked.
She glanced up at him. He looked pretty pleased with himself.

She’d noticed lately that Lucas had been wearing suits alot, even when there was no real occasion for it. And they were always immaculate, perfectly pressed.
Lucas slowed down a little more, catching sight of her heels. The corner of his mouth twitched upward.
Lynn had no idea what he was smiling about, but she kept pace beside him, her hand resting lightly on his
arm.
Once they were back in the car, Lucas asked, “So you quit your job?”
Lynn nodded, buckling her seatbelt. “Yeah. It was too exhausting, with all those night shifts.”
“Good,” Lucas said, starting the engine. “Probably lowers the risk of relationship problems anyway.”
Lynn laughed. “Wait, you actually worry about that kind of thing?”
“Obviously,” he replied flatly. “I put a lot into those engagement gifts. Haven’t exactly gotten my investment back yet.”
Lynn blinked. “How are you supposed to get it back?”
He was talking about marriage like it was some kind of business deal–completely serious, like he was determined not to take a loss.
Lucas smirked. “You’ll find out.”
It clicked immediately.
She shot him a quick glance, but he didn’t seem to be pushing for anything more.
When Lucas noticed she’d gone quiet, he asked, “Any plans after dinner?”
“No.”
Besides Daisy and Isabelle, she didn’t really have anyone left. What plans would she have?
“Then maybe we could spend some time together after eating You know… help with digestion.
Help with digestion?
Lynn still wasn’t sure what Lucas actually meant by that The first time he’d said it, he took her to watch the sunset. The second time, it ended with them in bed. And now he was bringing it up again…
She couldn’t read him at all.

Lucas glanced over, and she finally snapped out of it. “Okay. I’m in.”
She pressed her palms together, a warm feeling settling in her chest.
Maybe she should prepare for tonight too.
That stuff Diana gave her–she hadn’t even used half of it.
The thought made her face heat up, and she quickly rolled down the window to let some air in.

Lucas had no idea what was going through her head. He just noticed the wind catching her hair, those long, deep strands moving gently.
He smiled to himself.
During dinner, Lynn was distracted, turning over ways to keep Lucas interested.
She’d heard people say it before: guys fall harder through physical connection; girls need the emotional bond first.
If Lucas started losing interest now, that would be it. And he was genuinely great–good–looking, attentive, always looking out for her family. Where was she supposed to find someone like that again?
“You okay?” Lucas asked. “Food not good?”
Lynn shook her head quickly. “No, it’s great.”
She served him some, then focused back on her own plate.
Eat well. Whatever “help with digestion” meant later, she’d be ready.
Lucas ate quietly, watching her the whole time.
After dinner, Lynn stood off to the side while Lucas handled the cleanup.
He always kept the place spotless–unlike Lynn, who was a disaster everywhere except when she was playing the perfect daughter in front of her parents.
But honestly, it worked out. Lucas was almost obsessively tidy. Whenever she left clothes or shoes lying around, he’d just quietly put them away without a word
“I’m gonna shower first,” Lynn announced. She wanted to ask what exactly “help with digestion was supposed to mean, but bringing it up directly felt awkward. So she’d just… hint.
Lucas glanced at her. “Okay”
Lynn took that as confirmation and headed upstairs.
As she climbed the steps, she muttered under her breach. Tucas, honestly. Making a girl bring this up first?
So rude
She padded into the bedroom, locked the door behind her, and spent a good few minutes pacing around the walk–in closet before finally pulling out the little cafcostume.

She stared at herself in the mirror. “Isn’t this a little much…
