Bringing up a question she’d asked before, Lynn said, “Did you ever like Sandy?”

“No,” Lucas replied, his voice serious.

Lynn nodded, dropping the subject.

The elevator dinged, and Lynn pulled him out by his finger, knocking on Charles‘ door.

Sandy answered, smiling warmly.

“Hi, Sandy,” Lynn and Lucas said in unison.

“Come in,” Sandy said, grabbing two new pairs of slippers from the shoe cabinet.

The smell of food wafted from the kitchen–Charles was cooking.

“Smells amazing,” Lynn whispered to Lucas.

“I’ll cook for you anytime you want,” he replied, squeezing her hand.

Satisfied, Lynn smiled.

They greeted Charles, then followed Sandy to the couch.

She set down two glasses of juice, her eyes lingering on Lynn.

Nudging Lucas‘ arm, Lynn said, “Go help in the kitchen?”

“Nope. I cook enough at home. I’m not helping here,” he said, leaning back.

He just wanted to sit next to her.

Rolling her eyes at him, Lynn waited.

Lucas sighed, feigning disappointment, “Fine, fine.”

He stood up and headed to the kitchen.

“You two just sit tight–dinner’s almost ready,” Charles called out.

Leaning against the counter, his eyes never leaving Lynn, Lucas told Charles, “She wouldn’t let me sit with her. Said I had to help–so I’m here to supervise.”

Charles laughed. “Since when do you take orders from anyone? And ‘supervising‘ isn’t helping.”

Amused by Lucas‘ antics, Lynn shook her head.

Sandy leaned in. lowering her voice. “Lynn, thank you.”

Lynn smiled–she’d known Sandy had something to say.

After giving her the herbal recipe a few weeks ago, she’d told Sandy to have Charles abstain for half a month while she took the medicine.

Pulling out her phone, Sandy opened a photo of a sonogram.

Leaning in to look, Lynn gasped, “Pregnant? So fast?”

Sandy’s eyes were shining as she glanced at Charles in the kitchen.

Lynn let out a sigh of relief. “Eventually. Congratulations!”

She found that recipe in Taylor’s old medical books–she never thought it would work so well. Now Sandy would have a stronger place in the Moore family.

Petra had never liked Sandy’s background, hoping Charles would grow tired of her if she couldn’t have children.

But Charles had loved Sandy unwaveringly, and Sandy had loved him too–she’d just felt insecure, afraid he’d leave her if she couldn’t give him a child.

That was why she’d seemed distant before.

“I couldn’t have done it without you,” Sandy said, sipping her juice.

“It was nothing.” Lynn replied.

She’d felt bad for misunderstanding Sandy earlier, so she’d wanted to do something to make up for it- and it had worked out better than she’d hoped.

A playful smile on her face, Sandy asked, “What about you and Lucas? When do you want kids?”

Lynn’s face turned red as she thought about Lucas‘ misunderstanding earlier. He’d definitely be insatiable tonight, and she’d be sore for the flight tomorrow.

“I’ll leave it up to him,” she said.

Lynn didn’t mind either way, but she could tell Lucas wasn’t in a hurry–not after seeing the condoms he’d bought.

Sandy smiled, nodding knowingly.

Their conversation was cut short by Charles calling them to dinner.

As Lucas helped carry the dishes, his eyes never left Lynn.

Sandy shot a glance at Lucas, lowering her voice to Lynn. “I can’t believe he actually listened to you and went to help.

Did he not lift a finger around the house before?” Lynn asked.
