Isabelle found it amusing. That word sounded so awkward coming out of her mouth. “Stop pretending. It’s just the three of us here.”

Lynn laughed out loud. “Daisy, you let the world wear you down!”

Daisy put the flowers on the bedside table, looked at Isabelle, and stared at her belly.

She asked in a mysterious whisper, “How does it feel?”

Isabelle replied, “It feels like there’s a big bug inside my belly, rolling around everywhere.”

Daisy shivered at that.

Her surprise was evident.

Lynn’s smile slowly faded as she watched Daisy’s expectant expression.

Daisy couldn’t have children.

Only her family and Lynn knew.

Isabelle reached out for Daisy’s hand. “Come here, feel it.”

“Huh? No, thanks.” Daisy quickly withdrew her hand, glancing nervously at Damian outside the door. He’d chop her hand off if he saw this!

Isabelle reassured her, “Don’t worry. He won’t get mad at you.”

She took Daisy’s hand again and, through the hospital gown, carefully placed it on her belly.

Daisy’s hand trembled a little. Her heart tightened.

She felt faint movements against her palm.

“He’s moving!” she whispered, excitement igniting in her.

Isabelle smiled. Daisy looked just like Damian in moments of anticipation.

“Can I listen?” Daisy asked.

“Of course!” Isabelle shifted slightly.

Daisy leaned in carefully and pressed her ear against the belly. Strange gurgling sounds filled her ear.

Lynn watched, a pang of sadness swelling inside her.

Daisy had been assaulted in middle school. Back then, they still lived in the countryside. After that happened, they moved to the city.

Lynn put her arm around Daisy’s shoulder and said to Isabelle, “Looks like barbecue and fondue are off the menu for you.”

Isabelle looked regretful and complained, “You two just love to tease me.”

Lynn suddenly asked, “Where’s Diana? I haven’t seen her around lately.”

“She’s overseas at an event. I didn’t tell her.” Isabelle hadn’t told Diana yet.

Diana’s reputation in the fashion world was growing. She’d prepared thoroughly for this event, and Isabelle didn’t want to distract her.
