But Samuel seemed to have come looking for her on purpose.
“Mr. Bennett, what brings you here?” Daisy’s voice came out unusually soft.
She sensed something was off. This feeling was strikingly similar to that night several years ago.
She shuddered all over, silently cursing them as animals!

Despite her precautions, someone had managed to slip through, and she couldn’t remember any details of when it happened.
As Samuel approached, she turned and quickly headed down the emergency stairwell.
He followed with a smirk, “Don’t go. Ms. Clark!”
Daisy ran too fast, stumbled, and one of her red–soled heels rolled right to Samuel’s feet.
Those heels had been a gift from Joseph. They were expensive but very comfortable.
Samuel bent down. picked up the shoe, and beamed. “Ms. Clark, you dropped your shoe.”
With no time to worry, she grabbed the other heel and continued upstairs.
She couldn’t move fast. Her whole body was weak, like ants crawling under her skin.
That year, when the thugs had dragged her away, she’d run like this too, running until her feet were raw.
She made it up two flights, and then couldn’t go any further. She took off her coat, closed the fire door. and tied the coat around the handle to block it.
But she couldn’t tie it tight. A moment later, Samuel tore the door open without trouble.
Desperate, she pushed through an open door, slipped inside, and locked it behind her.
For a moment, she froze.
Behind her stood a man who had just taken off his clothes!
With danger on all sides, she couldn’t move an inch.
Tears streamed down Daisy’s face. Even her breath trembled with fear.
She stood with her back to the man, facing the door.
The room was dark. Faint light outlined the man’s broad back as he slowly approached her small frame.
When she’d rushed in, she’d seen him undressing.

He hadn’t turned on the light, and when Daisy barged in, he didn’t seem the least bit surprised. Instead, he remained calm and composed. (7
She gripped the doorknob, ready to open the door and leave.
But she didn’t. She could still hear Samuel outside.
“Do you need help?” The man’s voice came from behind her.
She could almost feel his hot breath pressing down on her.
His voice was captivating that it could tempt her to fall.
“Can I hide here for a while?” Her voice grew weaker.
Her legs were shaking too.
Behind her, the man put his shirt back on and buttoned it.
Her senses sharpened. In the quiet, she heard the rustle of his clothes. She thought he was undressing again, so she gripped the doorknob tighter, not daring to turn around.
“I’m sorry, I’ll leave right away.”
Just as she was about to open the door, the man pressed her against it, preventing her escape.
Startled, she turned to push him away.
He didn’t give her a chance. One hand caught her waist and pressed her against the door.
He didn’t use much force, but it was enough to pin her.
She couldn’t even turn, let alone see his face.
Her body flattened against the cold door.
“You took something,” he said coldly.
Daisy shook her head, not daring to speak.
The man’s hand moved up an inch from her waist.
Daisy couldn’t help a soft moan. Her knees nearly buckled.
With just that small gesture, he had exposed Daisy’s lie.
I’ll call a doctor,” he said, releasing his grip with a hoarse voice. “Don’t look back.”
You may have nightmares.
She didn’t dare move beginning to sense he might not be a bad person after all, her heart relaxing slightly.
