Lucas sat in the driver’s seat, rubbing his forehead with a frown. “Isabelle knows how to spoil Damian. That goofball Daisy knows how to put a smile on Anthony’s face. And you? You’ve never done a damn thing for
me.”
Lynn pursed her lips at him. “With that attitude, you’re lucky you got married at all. Stop being so picky.”
Lucas didn’t know whether to laugh or be annoyed. He shot her a sideways glare.
“And don’t you dare bad–mouth Ivy!”
Lucas caught the warning and shut his mouth.
He was starting to feel like the hardest–done–by guy in the group. Lynn never did anything special for him. It was messing with his pride.
If they all sat around chatting someday, he’d look like a complete loser.
Lucas carried the cake and followed Lynn into the elevator.
Lynn punched in the door code. Error. The door didn’t open.
She thought she’d typed it wrong and tried again. Still wrong. The third time, the lock started beeping an alarm.
“Six zeros. What kind of idiot picks that?” Lucas smirked.
“I picked it!” Lynn gave him a tight, fake smile.
Lucas quickly turned his head away.
She muttered under her breath, “With an attitude like that, you want a present?”
Daisy heard the alarm, checked the camera on the lock, saw it was Lynn, and hurried to open the door.
“Sorry, sorry.” Daisy swung the door open.
“When did you change your code?” Lynn was annoyed.
Daisy whispered, “He changed it. Said six zeros was asking for trouble.”
Fine.
Her best friend had a man now. What did she need a best friend for?
Lucas put the cake in the fridge and looked around. He ended up standing in the nursery Daisy had already set up, staring at it.
Soon after, Aurora showed up with Alaric and their baby. Isabelle and Damian came too.

They all sat around chatting for a bit. Lucas tried to hold Alaric’s kid, but the little one was shy and wouldn’t go to him. So Lucas switched to Damian’s son.
“Have your own if you want one so bad.” Damian had been busy lately and hadn’t gotten to hold his son much. He’d wanted to enjoy it, but Lucas had stolen the baby.
“You hold him every day. What’s wrong with me holding him for a minute?” Lucas cradled the baby carefully.
The little guy didn’t fuss. Lucas made him laugh out loud.
“Lucas loves kids,” Isabelle said to Lynn.
Lynn hummed in agreement, watching Lucas play the doting father. It was funny.
Daisy touched her belly and suddenly wanted her babies to hurry up and come out. Anthony would be so happy.
“How are things with Anthony? Are you two getting along?” Isabelle asked.
“Fine.” Daisy’s cheeks went pink.
Lynn started teasing her. “Look at you, blushing. ‘Fine,‘ she says.”
“Come on, spill it. How is he?” Isabelle leaned in, hungry for details.
“He’s… quiet. Doesn’t talk much.” Daisy sighed. “At this rate, the kids are going to have social anxiety.”
“No way?” Lynn popped a grape into Daisy’s mouth.
Daisy pulled out her phone and opened Anthony’s chat window. “Look.”
Their chat history was still stuck on the day he’d come back and asked, “Where are you?”
Daisy had sent a voice message. Nothing after that.
The most conversation they’d had was probably the day they ran into Lydia–and that was mostly Anthony and Lydia talking.
It was like they’d never had a real conversation.
Lynn took Daisy’s phone and, before Daisy could stop her, typed out a message to Anthony, “Mr. Vale, I kind of miss you.”
Then she turned off the screen and set the phone aside.
Daisy didn’t notice. She kept chatting with the others.
Anthony had just arrived at the bed–and–breakfast in the Coastal District. He was at the front desk, talking
