Chapter 676 The Woman in the Orchard
Chapter 676 The Woman in the Orchard
She shivered.
“Good night,” Anthony said.
“Good night.”
She listened to his steady breathing behind her.
So he didn’t mean it that way. She’d read him wrong.
O
Anthony didn’t want to push it. He wasn’t going to take that risk. He just kissed her hair softly.
He’d waited this long. He could wait a few more months.
He fell asleep quickly beside her. Daisy slept soundly too.

The next morning, Daisy opened her eyes and found Anthony studying her face, his fingers tracing her features.
He was a natural artist. At her parents‘ house, he’d painted her from memory. She could never do that. She’d gone through dozens of drafts trying to paint him.
She hadn’t even wanted to paint him in the first place. But she needed something of his around the house. Other than that jacket, the painting was the most obvious thing–right in her room where her parents could see it. It saved a lot of explaining.
But she could never get him right. Especially his mouth.
She reached out and touched it.
Anthony swallowed hard and moved closer, searching her eyes for permission. Seeing no rejection, he gave the corner of her mouth a careful peck.
Their breathing grew heavy. Warm breath mingled. The soft sounds filled the space between them.
Summer mornings came early. Sunlight spilled over them. The breeze stirred the curtains and their want.
He’d meant to keep it light. But he kept sinking deeper.
Daisy was a mess. Her hand slid from his waist down his stomach.
She wanted to help him too.
Anthony caught her hand quickly, his breath hot against her ear. “I’ll make you breakfast.”
Her face burned.
He smoothed down her nightgown, fixed the mess he’d made of her clothes, and walked out.

Chapter 676 The Woman in the Orchard
He went to the guest room, washed his hands, and frowned at himself.
Daisy rolled over and buried her face in the pillow.
After breakfast, Anthony went out.
Daisy was bored at home. Lynn offered to take her to the countryside to pick pomegranates.
Lynn was driving. They passed a villa in a unique, understated architectural style.
“Who would live in a place like that?” Daisy muttered. “So depressing.”
“Actually, it belongs to a famous psychologist. Dr. Hale, I think. Rich people’s places.”
“Rich people like that style?”
They chatted on and off.

There was a pomegranate orchard on the outskirts. They used to go there all the time. But now that Daisy was pregnant, she had to wait by the roadside with a little cart while Lynn did the picking.
“Get the big ones,” Daisy reminded her.
Anthony seemed to like pomegranates. So did she.
“I know,” Lynn called back, sweating in the heat.
Daisy had a little fan around her neck and a big hat on her head. She was taking a slow, lazy stroll.
Then, in the orchard across the way, she thought she saw Anthony.
She was losing it. Seeing him everywhere.
A familiar figure was picking fruit, a basket in hand. The silhouette looked exactly like Anthony.
She pulled out her phone, zoomed in, and sent him a message. “Mr. Vale, I just saw someone who looks just like you.”
She looked up again. It really was him.
Daisy was about to call out when a woman appeared beside him. She was wearing workout clothes, two braids hanging over her chest, and a straw hat on her head.
Daisy couldn’t hear what she said to Anthony. But she watched the woman peel a pomegranate and hold it to his mouth.
Daisy looked away. She quickly deleted the message she’d just sent.
Just then, Lynn waved at her from across the way.
Daisy pulled the cart and walked toward her.
