Claudia finally understood why the driver was surprised back in the car.

Moonhaven Villa sat abandoned and neglected, covered in cobwebs and overgrown weeds everywhere.
Built in a classic vintage style, it looked just like a run–down old church from period dramas,/left empty,
and desolate after disasters.
Somehow, Harold had made a phone call on the way. By the time they arrived, a crew of workers was already busy cleaning and tidying up the place.
They didn’t go inside the villa right away. Instead, they sat in the front yard pavilion and had takeout food together.
“Stay inside these next few days,” Harold said. “There are still loose ends to wrap up. Call me if anything comes up.”
“Alright.” Claudia nodded softly.
Harold kept his usual impassive look, no emotion showing on his face at all.
Ever since they first met, Claudia had never once seen him smile–not even a cold, faint smirk.
His expression stayed permanently blank, and his way of speaking sounded blunt and unyielding.
Quiet by nature already, Claudia grew even more reserved and withdrawn around him.
Harold pulled out the new phone he’d brought from the hospital, along with her old device from Bowman
Villa.
He took out her SIM card, inserted it into the new phone, and quickly adjusted all the settings.
Claudia stole quiet glances at him the whole time.
His eyes stayed clear and sharp, his cheekbones defined, and she could see the subtle movement of his jaw muscles every time he swallowed.
He had a pair of rare, naturally full, sensual lips for a man.
Her gaze drifted down to his black shirt sleeves rolled up his forearms, revealing strong, well–defined muscle lines.
Claudia’s heart fluttered.
He is undeniably handsome.
Her cheeks flushed red instantly, and she turned her head away, forcing herself not to stare.
Harold finished setting up the phone in no time, handed it back to her, and slipped a black bank card into her palm as well.

“I sent the passcode to your WhatsApp,” Harold told her plainly.

Claudia sat there still dazed while Harold tidied up the takeout containers on the table. He then turned and left the villa without a single backward glance.
High up in a towering office building, Darrell leaned against his desk. He held an unlit cigarette between his fingers on his left hand and a tablet in his right, gazing out over the entire city skyline.
Harold’s name was pulled up on the tablet screen, but every other detail was completely blank–no records, no background, nothing at all.
For the first time, Darrell felt an invisible sense of pressure looming over him from this mysterious
stranger.
Why can’t I find any information about him?
He’d sent men to tail him before, yet every tracker either lost his trail completely or vanished without a word.
He’d never imagined there was someone in this city with more power and influence than the Brady family.
Only the Cypher Group stood as a true match to the Brady family.
Few people had ever laid eyes on Cypher Group’s president, and the current person running it also carried the last name Cross. Darrell couldn’t help wondering if it was Harold himself.
If it is him, what exactly is his connection to Claudia?
His eyelids drooped, his expression turning dark and gloomy.
A long column of ash built up on his cigarette before falling silently onto the carpet.
The spark of the flame flickered once–then died out.
“Claudia, where are you?” Darrell murmured to himself, a sharp ache twisting in his chest.

“That little vixen,” Imogen snapped as she stood amid the dust and charred ruins of Bowman Villa. “That man swept her right away.”
She stared at the fire–blackened wreckage, seething with rage and wishing she could tear Claudia apart on the spot.
They’d planned to kidnap and lock her away, then tie her down through marriage once the ceremony was done.
They’d never expected this unknown man to have such overwhelming power.

He’d rescued Claudia in less than half an hour.

More than forty of their bodyguards were now laid up in the hospital, with not enough beds to go around.
“Forget about her for now,” Edgar said dismissively. “We just landed a business deal with Cypher Group- this is our perfect chance to turn our luck around.
“We’ll leave the rest to the Brady family to handle. That courtyard will end up in our hands sooner or later anyway.”
The total ruin around them barely stirred any emotion in Edgar at all.
His mind was fixed entirely on the small project contracts from Cypher Group.
The courtyard had belonged to Graham. He’d left a will behind after his death, and no one knew what it contained.
The whole Bowman family lived in fear that the courtyard would be left to Claudia.
It was worth over a billion dollars.
That was the real reason they’d been so desperate to trap and control her.
If they kept her locked away, no one would care if anything happened to her. The courtyard would naturally fall into Edgar’s possession in the end.
