Chapter 755 The Live Inscription
“He is,” the man said coolly.
The kid’s shoulders slumped. He knew he was in trouble.
Claudia glanced toward the boy’s uncle and gave a slight nod before turning away.

Normally, she would’ve steered clear of something like this. But they were just teenagers–barely thirteen or fourteen.
The look the boy had given her… almost pitiful. Without someone to keep him in check, he could easily head down the wrong road.
A lot like her, actually. If she’d had one more person looking out for her growing up, maybe she wouldn’t have carried so much on her own shoulders.
She made her way to the elevator and waited. Less than a minute later, she caught the man’s reflection in the polished doors as they slid shut.
He stood behind her, a full head taller.
A clean, subtle scent drifted over–not cologne, just the faint, natural smell of soap and skin.
“Ding-”
The elevator arrived. People stepped out.
Claudia moved back instinctively and misstepped, her heel landing right on the man’s leather shoe. Her ankle twisted, and she stumbled.
In an instant, his hand shot out and caught her by the wrist.
“Careful,” he said, his voice low and steady, like a cello.
“Sorry.”
She regained her balance.
He released her arm and shifted to the side, putting a comfortable distance between them.
They stepped into the elevator together. Claudia pressed the button for the third floor.
The man glanced at the panel but didn’t select a floor. They took positions on opposite sides.
Just the two of them inside.
“Ms. Bowman… thank you.”
“I lied to him earlier. I don’t teach here–I just stop by sometimes.”

After saying that, Claudia sneaked a look at his shoe. There was a faint scuff mark now.
A few seconds of silence passed before she spoke again. “Your shoe…”
“Don’t worry about it,” he replied with a light smile. He didn’t seem bothered.
“I really am sorry.”
“Mm.”
The elevator doors opened. The man didn’t move, so Claudia stepped out first.

Jaron was chatting with two middle–aged men near the entrance. When he spotted Claudia, he wrapped up the conversation.
“You made it,” Jaron said warmly. Then his eyes moved to the man right behind her. “Mr. Holcomb, you’re here too. Did you two…?”
Jaron looked between them curiously.
Claudia turned and glanced up at the man.
She hadn’t even realized he’d followed her out.
Mr. Holcomb?
Holcomb…
That wasn’t a common last name around here.
“We’ve never met,” they said at the same time.
Jaron chuckled awkwardly, then made introductions.
This was Randall Holcomb. President of Skyline Technology. Of all people.
Randall Holcomb–thirty years old, unmarried, no living parents, with an older sister who was divorced
and had a son.
The charity reception at Southhall that evening was being hosted by Skyline Technology. What were the odds of running into him here?
Once the introductions were over, they exchanged polite/nods.
They made small talk for a moment before Jaron excused himself–the registration desk was busier than he’d expected, with a crowd starting to form.
“Ms. Bowman, would you like something to drink?” Randall gestured toward a nearby seating area with a coffee table.
Claudia nodded. She’d only come today as a favor anyway–showing face, making an appearance. A cup of

wine or two and she’d probably head out.
They found two armchairs and sat down.
“So you’re not a teacher, Ms. Bowman?” he asked.
“No,” Claudia answered plainly.

The way she’d intimidated his nephew earlier had been unintentional. Most of the staff at Willow Studio were former students of Jaron, so they all knew Claudia by reputation.
“Could I ask you a favor, Ms. Bowman?”
Claudia had a feeling where this was going. “Go ahead.”
“Robin’s scared of you. Would you be willing to help keep him in line?” Randall came straight to the point
He’d recognized her that day at the police station when he came to pick the boy up. She’d been trembling badly back then–and the three teens had been shaking just as hard because of her.
That was when he’d first really noticed her.
