Chapter 774 Filing the License

Damian wasn’t pleased with how Harold had handled the wedding arrangements, especially after everything that went down with Loretta.

He hadn’t even bothered choosing the dress or picking out gifts–just hired someone to take care of it all. That really set Damian off.

“Understood,” Harold replied.

Harold hadn’t opened the box Harvey gave him until the night before. That was when he/noticed the marriage license didn’t even have a name signed on it.

But in a way, that worked out. Now Claudia could fill it out properly. Once Harold’s name was on it, she’d probably stop worrying about the whole thing.

Damian and Harvey hadn’t told her outright that they already knew what was going on. If they had, it would’ve made everything even more awkward for Claudia.

Better to just wait for Harold to sign the license Harvey had given him.

Harold took the box upstairs.

While he was in the shower, a text came in from Claudia.

“Do you know Damian or Harvey?” She had pulled over to text him, waiting for a reply.

Harold stared at the message for a long time.

When she didn’t hear back, Claudia just kept driving home.

Harold was drying his hair with a towel when Zander came running into the room.

“Daddy!”

He draped the towel around his neck, leaned down, and scooped him up. “Come here–give me a hug.”

Zander wrapped his arms around Harold’s neck. “I saw Mommy today, but she didn’t come to see me.”

“Mommy’s feeling a little shy. I’ll take you to see her tomorrow,” Harold said, a slight smile touching his lips.

Zander cheered, “Yay! I get to see Mommy!”

That evening, Harold took both boxes to the next town over to find the old clerk who used to help with marriage paperwork.

But the man had passed away.

“Look, I’d help, but my arm’s broken. Seriously–it’s gonna be another two weeks before I can use my hands properly,” a younger guy explained, his arm still in a white sling.

Harold glanced at the box. “Just show me what to do. I’ll handle it myself. I’ll still pay you for your time.”

“You? Uh…” The guy chuckled, then looked at the marriage license in Harold’s hands. “Alright, sure.”

Harold ended up staying in town until late.

The next morning, Nora called Claudia. Her car had been rear–ended and was already towed to the shop Luckily, Claudia was fine.

She was supposed to go to Jaron’s celebration party with Nolan–it was also Willow Studio’s first official team outing.

The party was up at Elm Ridge, right by the mountain bed–and–breakfast. They’d planned to camp overnight and stay up late.

Claudia hadn’t really wanted to go, but she’d turned Jaron down so many times that she figured she’d just drive herself up and leave whenever she felt like it.

With her car in the shop, she texted Harold to ask if she could borrow his.

He wrote back quickly. “Just be careful.”

Claudia noticed he still hadn’t answered her question from the night before.

She pushed the thought aside, packed a few things, grabbed Harold’s keys, and headed out.

The car Harold kept at Serene Manor was the SUV he usually drove. He’d been away on a work trip for a few days, so it had been sitting in the parking lot untouched.

Claudia got into Harold’s car, adjusted the seat, and took a deep breath.

She was a decent driver, but she hadn’t driven an SUV very often.

Right after she started the engine, Nolan called. “Head out whenever. I’ll wait for you at the corner.”

“Got it,” Claudia replied before hanging up.

She followed Nolan’s car up the winding mountain road.

They parked in the gravel lot near the site.

“Keith! Wasn’t sure you were gonna make it!” Nolan called out as he stepped out of his car, waving to a woman with loose, wavy hair.

That was Keith Denton.

“Nolan, long time no see,” Keith said with a warm smile.
