When the three people in the yard saw Harold walking in with Zander and Claudia beside him, they all paused for a moment.

“Is that… Zander?” Lowell asked, glancing toward Zander. She quickly pulled out a couple of chairs for them to sit.

Harold gave a casual nod. “Hey, Lucas. Hi, Lynn.”

Claudia followed his lead, offering a polite greeting to everyone there.

“What in the world…” Lucas stared at Harold, looking him up and down.

“Brought them by for a checkup. This little guy just got over a fever,” Harold explained, ruffling Zander’s hair. He then nodded toward Claudia. “And her fever came back after it went down last night.”

Hearing that, Lynn reached out gently toward Zander. “Come here, sweetie. Let me take a quick look.”

Zander kept holding Harold’s hand tightly. He glanced up at Harold and shuffled closer. “Daddy, carry me.”

“How about you go inside with Mommy and let Lynn check you over?” Harold suggested, giving his small hand a reassuring squeeze.

Claudia extended her arms toward him. “I’ll go with you, honey.”

Only then did Zander let go of Harold’s hand and lift his arms toward Claudia to be picked up.

Lynn led Claudia inside the house.

Lucas couldn’t hold back a low chuckle. “Well, well. Look at you. Found yourself a divorced woman with a kid, and now you’re playing dad already.”

Nearby, Lowell stifled a laugh, turning her face slightly away.

Harold watched Claudia walk inside before replying, “Zander is my son.”

“How was I supposed to know he’s yours? He’s calling you Dad.” Lucas took a slow sip from his glass of iced coffee. “So, is he the one you were searching for the other night?”

Harold nodded. “Yeah.”

“You lost someone else’s kid?” Lucas frowned slightly. “A boy this young…”

“I lost track of him. She found him.”

“Okay, that’s…” Lucas still looked a little confused.

Lowell finally chimed in, unable to hold back. “Zander is Harold’s son. Claudia is his stepmom.”

Harold clicked his tongue softly. “He’s the son of an old buddy from my service days.”

“No kidding,” Lucas said, putting his glass down. “So, what–she found him, and now he sees her as his mom?”

Harold didn’t answer directly. Instead, he pulled out an elegant wedding invitation and a small box of wedding favors from Zander’s backpack, setting them down in front of Lucas.

“Whoa. You’re moving faster than a high–speed train.” Lucas picked up the invitation, examining it with interest. He then glanced toward Lowell. “See? Take notes. Not even married yet, and already has a kid and a husband lined up. Saves a whole lot of trouble down the road.”

Lowell furrowed her brows slightly. What did that have to do with her? And why was he dragging her into

this?

“Claudia… that name really rings a bell,” Lucas murmured, thinking it over. Then it seemed to click. “Isn’t she from the Bowman family?”

“Yep,” Harold confirmed.

“Her? Wasn’t she engaged to your brother at one point…?” Lucas grew more puzzled the more he thought

about it.

Harold replied calmly, “She got engaged to me.”

Lucas shook his head slowly. “No, I remember this clearly. No way Damian would have been fine handing her over to a troublemaker like you.”

Harold had no comeback for that.

Inside, Lynn didn’t press Claudia with questions. After giving her a soothing steam treatment for her congestion, she had an assistant prepare a warm herbal drink for her.

Since Zander’s fever had already broken, he didn’t need any medication. Still, he stayed close to Claudia’s

side the entire time.

“Your little boy is so well–behaved. Doesn’t fuss or cry at all. Nothing like how Harold used to be,” Lynn remarked warmly as she drew back the curtain.

Claudia stepped down from the exam table and lifted Zander into her arms, smiling softly. “He’s just a bit of a cuddle bug.”

When they walked back out, Harold was already waiting by the door with Claudia’s prepared medicine. He gently took Zander from her arms.

Lynn went over a few care instructions before seeing them out to the car.

Once they were inside, Claudia and Zander settled into the back seat.

“You heard what the doctor said, right? If we sleep in the same room tonight, we might just keep passing this fever back and forth,” Harold said, glancing at Zander through the rearview mirror. “I’m going to have
