Chapter 795 Darrell’s Help
Chapter 795 Darrell’s Help
It took quite a while to calm Zander down before he finally agreed to go.
Harold drove him back to Cross Manor, and Zander cried nearly the entire way.
By the time they pulled up to the front gate, his cheeks were still wet with tears.
Isabelle stepped outside and drew him into a hug.
“What’s all this crying for, sweetheart?”
Zander buried his face against her shoulder, his small frame shaking with quiet sobs.

Harold shook his head slightly. “We’ve got the wedding photos tomorrow, so I thought I’d bring him back tonight. He said okay before we left, but once we got in the car, the waterworks started and didn’t stop.”
Just then, Harvey’s car pulled in behind them. He stepped out and caught the tail end of the conversation.
Isabelle nodded in understanding. “At least he’s attached to Claudy.”
Harold noticed Harvey approaching and gave a brief, “Hey.”
Harvey returned a slight nod. “Mom, why don’t you take Zander inside first? He’s about to fall asleep.”
Sure enough, worn out from crying, Zander was already dozing off on Isabelle’s shoulder. She nodded and carried him into the house.
Once they were gone, Harvey turned to Harold. “So you’ve heard about Keith?”
Harold’s expression tightened. “Yeah.”
“You want me to take care of it?”
“I’ll talk to her myself.” Harold and Keith hadn’t really spoken since things ended between them.
Looking back, he realized that by never setting boundaries back then, he’d let her believe she was something special–special enough to pull a stunt like this now.
He’d let it slide before because he knew she’d had a rough time, and he didn’t want to make things harder.
It wasn’t just her, either; Harold had helped plenty of people over the years. But none of them had acted as entitled as Keith had.
Now that he had Claudia, he didn’t want this reaching her. If she got upset over something like this, it wouldn’t be worth it.
And after what Keith had pulled with Zander, Harold wasn’t going to risk a next time.
“All right,” Harvey replied quietly.

He started to turn toward the house, but Harold spoke up again.
“Hey.”
“Yeah?”
Harold kept his voice low. “So… is there someone you’re interested in?”
Harvey stilled.
Claudia must have mentioned something.
He hadn’t expected the two of them to have talked about this already.

After a beat, he nodded. “There is. But I don’t know if she feels the same.”

“Who cares if she does or not? Make a move. She might be into you–it’s not like you’re a bad catch.”
Harold had pieced a few things together on his own, but more than anything, he hoped it was true. If Harvey really had someone he liked, maybe this lingering guilt Harold carried would finally ease up.
Harvey never imagined the day would come when Harold would be the one giving him dating advice.
The truth was, there was no one–it was just a story he’d put out there.
“She’s not there yet,” Harvey said evenly. “I’m still working on it. Don’t go asking around, and don’t mention it to Mom and Dad.”
Hearing that, Harold felt some of the tension leave his shoulders.
“I went to see Keith earlier,” Harvey added, though he left out the part about her getting hit.
“I’ll talk to her in a couple of days,” Harold said.
“Got it.” Harvey stepped toward the yard. “You heading back to Serene Manor tonight?”
“Yeah. I won’t come in–tomorrow I’ve still got…” Wedding photos.
He felt oddly embarrassed saying it out loud.
Harold cleared his throat. “Still have things to do.”
Harvey understood. “Take care of yourself. Call me if you need anything.”
“Will do.”
As Harold watched him go, it occurred to him that if he were a woman, he’d probably like someone like Harvey too–steady, considerate, always thoughtful.
Not like himself–reckless, impulsive, constantly causing trouble for the family and taking his share of blows because of it.

Chapter 795 Darrell’s Help
And now here he was, marrying Claudia, the woman who was once meant for Harvey.
Sometimes it felt like he’d never done a single thing that made his parents truly proud.
Roger stayed behind at the villa, so Harold drove back to Southhall Compound alone.
He pushed the speed limit the whole way.

When he arrived, Claudia was still busy. She and Darren were securing the final section of a large wall installation.
A few crew members lifted the piece–a long scroll nearly twenty–five feet in length–and leaned it carefully against the wall.
Evening had settled over Southhall, and guests were beginning to arrive for the evening’s event.
Harold parked in the rear lot and made his way inside.
Claudia was perched on a ladder, helping guide the scroll into position. The weight rested mainly on the solid wooden frame.
Darren was stationed on another ladder across from her, and they worked in quiet coordination.
“Left side, up an inch,” one of the crew called from a third ladder.
