Chapter 797 Ointment
Chapter 797 Ointment
Harold spoke softly, “Come eat.”
That pulled Claudia out of her thoughts.
She had just taken her seat when the doorbell rang.
Harold set the bowl and fork down in front of her and went to answer the door..
Claudia was starving, so she started eating right away.

When Harold returned, he was holding a small box. He walked straight toward the master bedroom.
Claudia’s cheeks flushed.
Earlier, in his rush, he’d torn open two of them and dropped both on the floor–only the third one had actually been used.
Now it seemed he wasn’t finished. Another long night was probably ahead.
They ate quietly. Every now and then, Harold would add more food to her plate.
“Can I stay with you tonight?” he asked.
Claudia paused briefly, then answered without looking up. “Of course you can. You don’t need to ask.”
They were married now. Sharing a bed was normal. The only reason they hadn’t before was because of
Zander.
With Zander gone, Harold definitely had every right.
Harold looked slightly annoyed. “If I don’t ask, you won’t say a word. You know I’m not exactly gentle. If I just went ahead-”
Claudia glanced at him. He was being pushy, yet there was something almost sweet about it.
He’d meant to put it nicely, but he was worried she’d keep holding back and end up getting hurt. “Maybe the soreness is a good thing. Helps you remember.”
“I won’t let it happen again,” she said with a faint smile.
After her grandfather passed, no one had really looked out for her in a long time. Hearing someone talk to her like this suddenly… she kind of liked it.
“What’s that smile for?” Harold caught the slight curl of her lips.
Claudia pressed her lips together. “You’re not so bad, you know.”
Harold didn’t quite know how to respond to that.

Then Claudia reached over and put some food on his plate.
Just like that, Harold’s irritation melted away.
He wasn’t being fair–she was already sore, and here he was blaming her.
It crossed his mind what someone like Harvey might do in a situation like this.

After dinner, Claudia was at the dressing table doing her skincare routine. She hooked a finger under the collar of her shirt and lifted it slightly.
Two more faint red marks stood out against her skin.
She had wedding photos tomorrow. With her fair complexion, those were going to show.
“I’ll try to be more careful next time,” Harold said, standing beside her.
By the time Claudia got into bed, Harold was still out in the hall on a call. He sounded stressed.
When he finally came back into the room, his expression was tense.
“What’s wrong?” Claudia shifted over to make space for him.
He sat down, their arms brushing lightly.
“Molly said someone spilled coffee on the wedding dresses. Several of them,” Harold said, frowning. “We might have to choose different styles.”
“I’m okay with whatever you pick.”
“There you go again–‘whatever’s fine.” Harold didn’t like how passive she was being.
“Then… you choose for me,” she replied, offering a small smile.
Harold looked at her. She was actually smiling at him–for once.
He couldn’t help himself. He leaned in and kissed her, deep and demanding.
Claudia was starting to realize just how intense Harold could be.
Not just intense–controlling, too. He didn’t give her a moment to catch her breath.
He pulled her onto his lap. Claudia could feel how tense his thighs were beneath her.
“Tell me honestly–does it still hurt?” Harold had already pushed her top down to her waist, the sleeves dangling off her arms.
She nodded, her voice barely a whisper. “A little…”
Harold wrapped his arms around her tightly, as if he didn’t want to let go.

Claudia heard him release a soft, frustrated sigh.
“Maybe we could… try,” she murmured quietly.
Harold cupped her face, his thumb stroking gently over the curve of her cheek.
“I don’t ‘try‘,” he said seriously. “Do you still have feelings for Darrell?”
“No.” Claudia shook her head.

Whatever she’d once felt for Darrell–those pictures and videos had killed it the instant she saw them.
“Then I hope you can learn to care for me,” Harold said, pulling her closer by the waist
Claudia’s breath hitched. Her hands came up to grip his shoulders. “Okay,” she whispered.
