She’d borrowed money from him, too. Harold hadn’t said a word; he’d wired it to her that sarne night

To others, Harold might have seemed distant and unapproachable, but Keith had always told herself he was just the type who seemed cold but was warm underneath.

The day Keith called, Harold had been on his way to pick up Claudia.

“Then why did you come today…” Keith trailed off, suddenly remembering the text she’d tried to send last night that never went through.

“I came to make things clear,” Harold said. “Drop the little games. My brother already talked to you. I’m not going to do anything to you, but that doesn’t mean I’ll keep putting up with this.”

It hadn’t occurred to Harold that his silence might have given her the wrong idea.

Harvey once called her “all sweet act, no real heart.” Harold hadn’t been around many women, so he didn’t quite get what that meant at the time.

Now, he felt he was starting to understand.

At first, when Zander got lost on the mountain, Harold thought it might really have been an accident.

But the horseback riding incident left him furious.
