Chapter 838 Finding Brother
Harold’s breathing grew noticeably rougher.
Claudia pressed her lips together, a faint smile touching them.

Then her hand slid from his chest down beneath the blanket, tracing toward the defined ridges of his abs.
Just before she reached them, Harold caught her wrist.
Neither spoke.
He drew her hand back up to his chest, then wrapped both arms around her, cradling her head and tucking her firmly against him.
“Getting mischievous,” Harold murmured, pulling the comforter up over her shoulders.
“Did you hear what I said earlier?” Claudia finally gathered the nerve to ask.
“I heard you.”
“Then why didn’t you answer?”
Harold swallowed. Part of him wanted to let Claudia do as she pleased.
But another part held back–she had just returned home, and with her slight build, being tossed into the ocean must have shaken her badly. He couldn’t bring himself to add more to her plate.
“Searching for him won’t change anything. He probably doesn’t want to be found,” Harold said softly, brushing a kiss against her hair.

“Why wouldn’t he?” Her voice held genuine disappointment.

“If he really wanted to see you, he wouldn’t have taken off. Even if you looked, he might not let you find
him.”
Harold was right.
Claudia had already guessed that much. She just couldn’t grasp why Hector had to disappear again.
They had been so close.
She had believed he was gone forever.
Then she remembered that text.
That odd, out–of–place message. It must have been from him.
Noticing the quiet in his arms, Harold thought she was upset. He shifted onto his side, gently guiding her down, and stole a light kiss on her cheek while she was lost in thought.

Harvey paused, meeting her eyes briefly before carefully lifting Zander out.

Claudia already knew Harvey had Howard upgrade their rooms to the presidential suite.
She’d always known Harvey was thoughtful–she just hadn’t realized he was this considerate.
He’d taken care of every detail.
As they walked inside, she stayed close to Harvey’s side.
He carried Zander all the way to Claudia’s suite.
Dolores hesitated near the doorway–unsure if she should follow–but a look from Harvey had her stepping inside, though she remained in the living area.
The door was left wide open.
Harvey laid Zander down slowly onto the bed. The moment he did, Zander murmured in his sleep and turned over.
Claudia placed her jacket near him. Zander reached out, hugged it close, and settled back into deep sleep.
Harvey watched her, curious.
Claudia gave a small smile. Their eyes held for a second before they both stepped out into the sitting
room.
“What you did just now…” Harvey began quietly.
Zander had calmed instantly, holding her jacket like a comfort object.
“Harold taught me that,” Claudia explained. “Little ones sleep better when they have something that smells like people they know nearby. It makes them feel secure, helps them stay asleep longer.”
Harvey nodded in understanding.
So that was it.
His gaze drifted toward Dolores, who stood quietly with faint shadows under her eyes.
Zander had been staying with her lately. He hadn’t been fussy, but his sleep had been restless at night. Now it made sense.
Dolores had overheard, too.
It clicked for her–next time she looked after him, she’d make sure to keep something of his parents‘ close

Back at Moonhaven, Harold had warned her that staying silent would only leave her at a disadvantage.
Even though she’d come a long way since then, it was clear he still wasn’t fully satisfied. Especially when it came to not wanting to burden him–she kept trying to trade favors for his help.
“Doesn’t it feel like you’re selling yourself short?” Harold watched her.
Claudia’s cheeks flushed bright
He didn’t give her time to recover before continuing, “I told you before–what I feel for you has never been about some sense of obligation…”
Harold cut himself off, holding back the rest.
He wasn’t angry because Claudia was trying to please him so he’d help her.
He was angry because she was still in pain, and she’d put herself through it just to ask him to find Hector.
The thought alone stirred his temper.
She never put herself first.
“Eat,” Harold said, reining in his irritation.
Claudia ducked her head over her bowl and took a sip of soup.
She remembered what Isabelle had told her once.
