Chapter 894 Magnetic Lashes
Harold hadn’t anticipated that magnetic eyelashes were even a thing. “Just peel them off–they’re magnetic.” Claudia had told him.
Honestly, her own lashes were already plenty full. Adding that extra layer only made her eyes seem brighter, almost luminous. He followed her instructions step by step, carefully removing her makeup. It dawned on him then why women could spend so much time on their routines–it really was a skill.
A faint smile touched his lips.
“What’s so funny?” Claudia eyed him. “Do I look that different without it?”
“Not at all.” Harold smoothed serum onto her cheeks. “You look beautiful. Guess I got lucky.”
He gave her cheek an affectionate pinch–soft and warm under his fingers. Claudia reached up and cupped his face too, rubbing his stubble gently. She wasn’t shy around him anymore. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she pulled him into a hug.
Harold bent down, lifted her effortlessly, and carried her into the bedroom.
Under the stream of the shower, her damp dress slid down to the floor. His wrinkled shirt followed, tossed into the laundry hamper. Water rained down, mingling with their quickened breaths, and steam gradually fogged the mirror, seeping out from under the door.
Claudia patted his arm and mumbled something against his skin–he’d been holding her a little too tightly. But Harold only kissed her deeper, stealing the air from her lungs, leaving her breathless.
In the foggy mirror, his reflection looked almost possessed–like some wild, restless young man, all pent- up energy and intensity. Claudia felt dizzy, her legs starting to give way, until his arms tightened and pulled her back up against him.
“So sensitive…” He chuckled softly near her ear.
Claudia always considered herself in pretty good shape. She kept up with her workouts, never slacking off. But by the time Harold finished blow–drying her hair, she was already half–asleep, collapsing into bed as soon as he was done.
Harold had a few drinks earlier, but it hadn’t slowed him down one bit.
Now, with Claudia asleep beside him, he pulled her close, rubbing her back absently as he picked up the card he’d gotten back earlier that day. His thumb brushed over the surface before he located the one Harvey had mentioned.
Hector
The card was registered under Hector’s name.
Harold held it for a long moment, contemplating whether to open the attached envelope. After a pause, he set it down on the nightstand instead. He switched off the lump, drew Claudia closer against his chest, and let sleep pull him under
******
It was nearly noon when Claudia finally stirred the next day. She blinked at the clock and bolted upright.
She definitely remembered setting her alarm for eight.
Now it was almost one in the afternoon–Harold must have shut it off.
She glanced over at him, still asleep beside her. One muscular arm rested over the blanket, exactly where it had been wrapped around her. Rubbing her forehead, she sighed. Too late to get up now anyway.
Since Harold was still asleep, she settled back against the pillows.
“Why’re you always up so early?” His sleepy voice murmured near her ear. “Wasn’t last night enough for you?”
Claudia huffed quietly, the sound carrying a clear note of complaint.
Harold was… a lot to handle. And he never seemed to hold back his strength.
He could tell she was sulking. A slow smile spread across his face as he drew her into his arms, his body warm against hers. “If you’re not satisfied, we can always go another round. I’ll make sure you’re happy this time.”
Her cheeks flushed. “That’s not what I meant,” she said, catching his wandering hand.
