Aslan locked eyes with her. He rushed over and blurted out, “Sylvara, where’s the person who was with me?”
Sylvara stepped forward, pretending not to know what he meant.
She tested him, “How would I know? When I found you all I saw were a bunch of mutant beasts. Besides those beasts, I didn’t see anything else.”
Aslan’s face shifted. “You saw a lot of mutant beasts? Was he hurt? Did you see him bleeding?”
Blake had a connection to mutant beasts.
Could she perhaps control them?
Is she a beastkin?
A high-level beastkin?
Sylvara kept her expression calm. “I don’t know if he was hurt, but there was blood on the ground. Those beasts were agitated. If we hadn’t run fast enough, they would’ve dragged our aircraft down.”
Aslan froze when he heard there really was blood. Now that Blake was missing, he stopped in his tracks and said darkly, “He’s injured and missing. We have to call off the military training and mobilize everyone on this planet to search for him. If we can’t find him, we’re all done for.”
Sylvara halted, spun around, and stared straight at him. Even if he’s Agares’s mentor, that doesn’t mean 310,000 people need to die along with him!”
Aslan stiffened. “Y-you know that man is Prince Agares’s mentor?”
Sylvara shrugged, still testing him. “He had hunted me down for days. How could I not know? What I don’t know is what kind of status he has that requires all of us to die along with him.”
The Troya Empire had nobles and commoners.
It had a royal family.
But it had no tradition of burial sacrifices.
For Aslan to blurt something like that meant Blake had other identities beyond empress and general.
Aslan was pacing like a cat on a hot stove. “I can’t explain everything right now. I can only tell you this: if anything happens to him, I’m the first to go. And you’re the last person who was near him, so you’ll be next. Princess consort or not.”
Sylvara’s babyils tightened. If Blake really got hurt, her title wouldn’t save her. Blake was a high general and
an empress.
What could she be? A guardian beast? If the empire lost her, would the whole nation collapse? Would they need human sacrifice to keep the empire steady?
Yikes!
The thought alone made her skin start to crawl.

“Call it off. I’m ending this military training right now,” Aslan said. He didn’t care about the rule that anyone hit by a blank round was considered eliminated. He pressed his headset and spoke firmly, “Attention all units. Attention all units. During this training, the Operations Chief has gone missing. Military training is now-”
He hadn’t even finished his sentence when Blake’s loud, proud voice burst through the channel. “Attention all units. Attention all units. After the commander got taken out, the operations chief for this military training-yes, me, your instructor-has also been taken out.
“New blood is here to outshine the old. The person who took down both the commander and operations chief is a freshman from the Fifth Military Academy. Congratulations for picking up such a talent. I hope all students from the Fifth Military Academy can do well in the next 26 days and avoid getting taken out.
“As for the one who defeated the commander and me, I personally expose his identity on Starnet after this military training. Good luck, everyone!”
Blake’s words didn’t just echo through the comms. They were also sent out as a message, word for word, to every single student on the planet.
Freshmen, upperclassmen, instructors—every one of them received it.
For one second, everyone froze.
Then came the explosion, roaring.
“Who in the world from the Fifth Military Academy is so tough they took down my idol and the Operations Chief?!”
“Our academy is rising! We’re about to crush the other military academies! The freshmen are making us proud!”
“Hold up! Operation Chief said he’ll expose the person on Starnet. So the one who took out both of them is the same person?!”
“What are we waiting for?! Take out all the freshmen from the Fifth Military Academy! Better to be safe than sorry; none of them get to reach the finish line!”
In an instant, students from other academics share the same idea. Hunt down the Fifth Military Academy’s freshmen.
The Fifth had already taken out the Commander and the Operations Chief. They were overshadowing
everyone.
If they reached the finish line alive, the other academies would never live it down.
Aslan finally recovered from the shock. He let out a heavy breath and instantly switched back to his usual lazy charm. “Sweetheart, I’m your prisoner now. You better take good care of me.”
Sylvara’s earpiece was still connected. She heard every word Blake said, loud and clear. Blake hadn’t sold her out. She even guided everyone to believe that the person who took her out and the same one who beat the commander was Veyric.
