Another user commented, [No soldiers, no safety. Without the military’s sacrifices, would the Elder Council even have the quiet and peaceful life they complain about all day? Do they really think being born noble means they’re above everyone else?]

[As far as I know, today is a four-party meeting to discuss cutting or raising the defense budget. So why did the Elder Council block me at the door? What’s the message? Do they want all the power for themselves?]

[Exactly, it’s a four-party meeting. Last year’s military budget was already lower than the year before. If General Kenobia isn’t allowed in, is it because they don’t want his vote against further cuts? The Elder Council’s intentions are starting to look scary.]

“Good work, Daddy. Have some water,” Sylvara said sweetly. She logged off Starnet, picked up the teacup on the table, and poured Blake a fresh cup. She offered it with both hands, attentive and polite.

She had to admit it. This bastard was fun and interesting. Instead of arguing inside the room, she pushed the fight outside. She turned the whole empire against the Elder Council.

With public anger this high, the military budget would not be cut. As for whether it would rise and by how much, that would depend on what happened at the table.

“Thanks, sweetheart. You worked hard too,” Blake said. She cleared her throat, took the cup, and sipped. Then her voice dropped. “Adjutant Colon, what’s the situation online?”

Traze snapped to attention, the optical computer strapped to his wrist. “Reporting to General Kenobia. Public opinion is moving exactly as you guided it. The Elder Council has become the main target.

“Countless Starnet users are guessing the Council wants full control and is cutting the military budget on purpose, year after year.”

“Good job,” Blake said. “Turn the heat up. Leak some info. Let people dig into the Council’s annual funds, the elders’ personal spending, and where their families go to burn money.”

“Roger that.”

“General Kenobia, you’re here already?” Anry’s voice arrived before she did. “Why didn’t you tell me? I would have met you at the door.”

Sylvara’s fingers twitched. An invisible wave of mental energy flowed from her hand and struck Anry’s knee.

Thud.

Anry stumbled, rolled twice, and fell flat on her face, right in front of Sylvara and Blake.

Sylvara shifted slightly. Her right leg crossed over her left. One elbow rested on the tea table. She looked down on Anry, distant and cold, like a queen who did not welcome strangers.

“Oh my,” Blake said, one hand holding her teacup, the other pressed to her chest. “Elder Anry, what are you doing? You almost gave me a heart attack. I just coughed up blood earlier. Another shock like that and I’ll need an ambulance.”

Anry lay on the floor, stunned. She had been walking just fine. Then, out of nowhere, her knee exploded with pain, she lost control of her body, and she fell on the ground.

“General Kenobia,” Sylvara said lightly, following Blake’s sarcasm, “Elder Anry is just trying to apologize to you. If you go to the hospital now and the people hear about it, they might think the Elder Council punished you at the door.

“That would be terrible. Really terrible. It would ruin Elder Anry’s reputation. General Kenobia, you’re not getting any younger. You should think of the Council’s image. We can’t let Elder Anry’s reputation get dragged through the mud.”

Blake nodded firmly. “You’re right, sweetheart. Elder Anry, don’t worry about apologizing. Please get up.”

Anry wanted to stand up. But the moment she tried, pain shot through her knees as if they were shattered. Sweat broke out on her back. Her mental energy surged out of control. It felt as if her genes were collapsing all at once-like knives cutting, like needles stabbing.

“She’s not getting up. Is she trying to stage an accident?” Sylvara said, her tone exaggerated. She stayed relaxed, leaning sideways in her chair without moving an inch. She casually pointed at Anry. “General Kenobia, are you recording this?” Sylvara asked. “At that age, one little bump and bones can get fragile. What if she falls and tries to blame us? Don’t let her scam us.”

Anry fell silent.

She was only 110 years old.

Everyone always praised her for taking good care of herself. They said she looked beautiful.

Since when did she become an old woman?

Fragile bones?

Where did this brat come from? How dared she curse her?
