Oh, and one more thing. The Empire’s highest lawmaking body can work together with the Supreme Court to rewrite and expand existing Empire laws.
That alone was proof enough.
She really was a well-educated rogue.
The conference hall was vast.
Sylvara walked in with Blake.
The Throne Dragon Emblem on Sylvara’s head was far too eye-catching.
The members of the Assembly who remained seated all stood up at once and bowed to her with respect.
Sylvara lifted her chin slightly. Her expression was cool and distant. She followed Blake toward the main seat at the long conference table.
Blake, ever the gentleman, pulled out the chair for her.
Sylvara blinked. The nameplate in front of that seat read: Relos Vaelor-Emperor Vaelor of the Troya Empire.
Was it really okay for her to sit here?
She had no nerve to start a rebellion.
Blake looked at her calmly, waiting for her to sit.
Fine.
If someone dared to offer her the seat, why shouldn’t she take it?
Sylvara walked over, casually smoothed her dress, and sat down.
Blake then took her seat across from her.
The conference table was long. The two of them sat facing each other, separated by what felt like miles.
Impressive.
The others followed and took their seats as well.

Ozark had no idea what had happened outside. He didn’t know that Anry had already been taken away. He talked to Sylvara, “Your Excellency, you’re here on His Majesty’s behalf. Elder Anry has not arrived yet. Please give the order to send someone to find her.”
On His Majesty’s behalf?
So the Throne Dragon Emblem meant she was representing the Emperor? So that’s how it was.
The royal family had limited members, so they grabbed her and put her to work, either bullying her or using her.
Relos couldn’t get up.
So, they sent her instead.
Blake really was something else.
Sylvara leaned back in her chair. One hand rested on her leg, idly playing with the small black egg. The other flipped through the meeting agenda in front of her. She didn’t even lift her eyes as she replied to Ozark. “Oh, you’re looking for her? You can try the Supreme Court.”
Ozark blurted out, “What do you mean by that?”
“Who are you?” Sylvara asked calmly, still not looking up. “You didn’t even introduce yourself. You came in aggressive, and now you want me to go find someone for you?”
She paused, then added flatly, “Do you want me to make a call to Emperor Vaelor and ask him to come help you look? Have you thought about who you are and whether you can boss me around?”
He had meant to knock Blake down a peg.
Instead, a young girl put him in his place. His face darkened. His voice turned stiff. “That’s not what I meant, Your Excellency. Please don’t take this wrongly. Today is a Four-Party Meeting. If one party is missing, the meeting can’t proceed. So Elder Anry-”
Sylvara flipped through the files in front of her. She toyed with the smooth black orb in her hand. Her eyes never lifted. Her voice was slow and calm. Each word was clear and could easily drive Ozark mad. “Oh, so this is a four-party meeting,” she said lightly. “And Elder Anry alone ran everything. Now that she broke the law, the Elder Council can’t function at all?
“Then what’s the point of keeping the Elder Council? Why not just disband it? Let dust return to dust. Everyone could go home and stop wasting each other’s time.”
“Your Excellancy-”

Smack.
Sylvara’s hand slammed down on the documents. The sound hit the table hard.
The room went dead silent; only shallow breathing remained.
Sylvara slowly lifted her eyes. She swept her gaze across the room and met Blake’s eyes.

Blake smiled slyly. She gave Sylvara a thumbs-up, clearly enjoying it. The message was obvious: Keep going. Take them apart.
Sylvara sighed inwardly.
Forget it! No time to sharpen the blade, but a dull blade still cuts.
Fine. Let’s do this.
I’d take whatever I could and go flirt with my bargain-bin husband later.
Her eyes settled on Ozark. “Today is the Four-Party Meeting,” Sylvara said. “The main topic is whether to cut or raise the military budget.
“You blocked me at the door. That’s one thing. But now that I’m inside, you keep rambling nonstop. If sitting is so tiring, then you should stand. It’s good for your health.”
She lifted her hand from the table. A sharp crack rang out.
Blake calmly dragged her chair back.
The cracking grew louder.
A long crack split down the center of the table. Then, more cracks spread out like a web.
