“If he called the cops and had our faces sketched, we’d be wanted across the entire interstellar network. Do you really think my husband wouldn’t find out? Once my husband knew, wouldn’t your husband know too? Do you think we could still keep our covers?”
“Stop trying to scare me with Relos. With my current disguise, I could deny everything and no one could touch me,” Blake said smugly, clicking her tongue. “And hey, you actually remembered to protect your cover. I thought you were too busy obsessing over pandas to think straight.”
Sylvara let out two awkward chuckles, quickly admitted her mistake, and absolutely refused to change her ways. “I was wrong. I shouldn’t have forgotten how dangerous this place was just because I was busy petting pandas, especially with a guardian beast watching us like a hawk. Next time I pet, I’ll find somewhere deserted and really go all out. By the way, when my panda baby goes back to his original form, how tall would he be?”
“Smack!”
Blake reached out without mercy and slapped her on the forehead. “Focus. We’re about to rob someone. Stop thinking about your panda.”
Sylvara pouted and rubbed her forehead. “I know, but we still need a disgu…” She didn’t finish the sentence. Her eyes flicked forward. “Daddy, the guy with the case ook a side path. He’s not on the main road anymore.”
Blake sped up the aircraft as she spoke. “Perfect timing. didn’t want to do this on the main road anyway. Since he picked a side path, all the better. Hold tight, well cut him off from the front.”
Sylvara answered crisply, “Got it.”
Ten minutes later, the two of them had changed into black outfits, gotten off the aircraft, and stood hidden among the trees beside the narrow path.
Sylvara lifted the mask in her hand with a complicated expression. “Daddy, I heard that robberies looked like this three thousand years ago. Are you telling me robberies still look like this after three thousand years? Are you messing with me?”
A stocking mask.
No.
A black stocking mask.
Impressive.
But could this be any less sketchy?
Blake pulled the mask over her head, revealing only her old ways become classics for a reason. Besides, every re made it to number one on the most-wanted bounty list since. No one’s beaten him.”
That was a thing?
Did she really look that naive?
lisguised black eyes, and spoke confidently. “The bandit looks like this. My close friend Red Brows with this classic look and has stayed there ever

Sylvara’s mouth twitched. “Daddy, I’m starting to think you’re a very unreliable daddy. How did Red Brows not get you killed?”
“Spit it out, that’s a terrible thing for a kid to say,” Blake aid. She casually grabbed the black mask from her hand and pulled it over her head, leaving only her dark yes visible and covering her entire face. “Look how well it fits. Trust me, I won’t hurt you. Come on, let’s go ob someone.”
Sylvara tugged at the mask. Turns out the classics really were classics. It was comfortable, breathable, and fit surprisingly well.
The two of them moved back along the narrow path, staying hidden in the bushes. The man they were planning to rob kept walking under the shade of the trees. Even as they got closer, his face was still hard to make out.
Blake gathered a thin, needle-like ice spike in her hand.
Sylvara did the same. As an ice-type ability user, she formed an ice blade in her grip. Just as the man they planned to rob drew close, and they were about to jump out-
Suddenly, from the other side of the path, five burly men wearing black stocking masks leaped out and blocked the man’s way.
One of them shouted loudly, “This road is ours. These trees are ours. If you want to pass, leave what you’re carrying behind and we’ll spare your life.”
Sylvara’s foot stopped mid-step.
Crack.
She crushed the ice blade in her hand.
Slowly, she gave Blake a thumbs-up. “Daddy, you were right. The classics really are classics. That robbery line was classic as hell.”
Blake casually pushed her thumb aside and leaned out to look. “Damn it. I was wondering which bastard dared to steal my target. Turns out it was Bluebeard.”
Bluebeard?
Someone they knew?
“Bluebeard?” Sylvara asked, full of confusion. “They’re wearing masks and you can still tell who it is? What does he do?”
“I’d recognize him even if he turned to ash,” Blake said carelessly. “What does he do? He’s a bandit. Ranked number two on the interstellar bounty list. Twenty billion.”
