DONOVAN
Befriend non–wolves? How was Alpha Donovan suppose to do that? Wait. Didn’t he already have non–wolf friends?
Most of his business contacts were human; a few were elves, dryads, fae, and even an orc. He got along fine with them. They weren’t particularly close and would never hang out or get a drink together to shoot the shit, but he didn’t hate dealing with them. That was considered ‘friends‘, right?
Right?
Who was he kidding. None of them would come to his aid if something were to happen, just as he wouldn’t help them if they found themselves in a similar
situation.
He’d actually never thought of befriending anyone from another species. Why bother, when he had an entire pack at his beck and call? He could even reach out to other Alphas for aid, depending on the circumstance.
Except… this situation was one no other Alpha would touch with a ten foot pole. Donovan had been lazy and this was the result of his inaction. Besides, why would any of them care about the fate of some human?
Donovan owed that human. A human with a vampire protector who enjoyed killing wolves. A human the Council of Elders would most likely execute to free themselves of needing to deal with her ever again.
All this went through the Alpha’s mind as he stood outside Kaleidoscope. During the day the building was nondescript, its gaudy sign almost invisible when not lit up. Humans rarely noticed it, the protections in place helping keep those who knew nothing of Others from accidentally stumbling inside but, honestly, if he didn’t know it was there, Donovan wouldn’t have noticed it either.
No wolf could enter the bar anymore. A few had tried but they couldn’t so much as step over the threshold. He would be no different, which meant he needed to find another way to speak to those inside. If anyone was even there during the day.
Taking a deep breath, Donovan stepped up to the door and pounded his fist against it. He could hear it echo inside but no other sound met his sensitive ears. Was this all for nothing?
About to knock a second time, the door suddenly swung inward to reveal Harry crouching in the doorway. The sasquatch looked like he’d been woken, ap by Donovan’s pounding – hair a mess, dark eyes heavy with sleep. “Stop noise,” he grumbled
“I want to speak with your boss,” Donovan told the creature. It took effort to keep his tone police when dealing with Harry, Sasquatches weren’t known for their intellect and that made most Others – wolves being no exception – see them as lesser than.
Harry grunted as he sat down with a small thud, legs splayed out like a child. “No enter. Wolf not allowesk”
“I’m not asking to go inside. I just want to talk to your boss.” Breathe, Donovan, he reminded himself. He was there to make friends, or allies, or something. Loosing his temper now would make this eptire trip worthless. “I want… No. I need to… apologize. For my part in what happened.”
“Oh, a wolf with a guilty conscience?,” a voice purred as the bar’s wampus cat leapt onto Harry’s broad shoulders.
“Gregory good?”
“Yes, Harry, I’m good. You go back to bed. I’ll deal with this.”
“Good. Harry tired.” The sasquatch picked the feline up off his shoulder and set him on the floor. “Sleep good.”

Chapter 150
Roth hissevan and the wampus cat watched as Harry got up and walked away.
“I’m Alpha Donovan Mchezaji, and 1-‘
“I know who you are, Alpha,” the feline interrupted, tail swishing across the floor. “You, and only you, may enter these premises for the span of a single hour. So please, come inside so we can speak more comfortably,”
After a brief hesitation, Donovan crossed the threshold. He let out a sigh of relief when athing happened.
