RIAGHAIRE

Riaghaire began to panic. His gréine wasn’t responding. He could barely feel her pulse and her heart beat was but a murmur to his sharp ears. Soon her breathing began to slow and he had no idea what to do.

“Move,” a rough voice ordered as someone dared place a hand on the vampire’s arm.

Snapping his head around to find the culprit, Riaghaire hissed at Marlow, who didn’t so much as flinch.

“I can help, so move it or lose it,” was all the witch said. Was that a threat? Was this little man witch threatening to take his gréine away? To make him suffer ‘losing’ her?

“Riaghaire. He can help.” Claire’s voice reached him, though barely, and drew him back from the edge of insanity.

Reining in his emotions, the vampire managed a jerky nod but couldn’t bring himself to move from where he crouched, his gréine held tightly in his arms.

Marlow sat on the ground across from Riaghaire and placed a hand on Beatrice’s stomach, earning himself a low growl from the vampire that went ignored.

The witch closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

Nothing happened for a second, then Marlow raised his other hand and, using his thumb, began drawing symbols in the air while muttering unintelligible words under his breath. This went on for far too long in Riaghaire’s opinion – his gréine needed help now, not later – and he grew more impatient with every swipe of the man’s thumb, until it took everything in him to keep from biting the damn finger off.

The finger stilled, then lowered as Marlow pressed the guilty digit against the back of the hand still on Beatrice’s abdomen. There was a pulse of magic as whatever spell that’d been woven settled over his gréine’s body, soaking into her skin.

“There. Done,” the witch told Riaghaire, sounding tired.

“What did you do?” Ptyrese inquired, leaning in curiously.

“That’s fancy. I didn’t know you could weave that sort of thing, Marlow,” Lan’gny added with an impressed look on his face.

slows it to a crawl but it’s magically “I slowed her time,” Marlow explained as he ran a hand over his face. “It works great when someone’s bleeding out draining and, honestly, a pain in the fucking ass. Whatever happened with her won’t get worse for about an hour, give or take. I suggest getting her home or… wherever before then.”

it was unheard of. Who was this

Slowed her time? Riaghaire stared at the witch, unable to believe anyone had the knowledge, let alone skill of power, to weave such a spell. Time was one, if not the most difficult, of the elements to manipulate. To have done so with seeming ease was more thak impressive witch and why was he here? With that sort of spell he could rule over the Covens with ease; why had he chosen to work at some bar for a paltry salary plus

tips?

It didn’t make sense. None of these Others made sense.

“Thank you,” Riaghaire finally managed to squeeze out after a minute of being unable to look away from the witch.

“Don’t,” Marlow scoffed. “Casting that spell for a legitimate reason means I’m gonna get a nice bonus on top of the overtime I’m racking up just being here. A devilish grin spread across the witch’s face. “If you wanna thank me, you can always tip your resident witch. I like big bills

A hand smacked the witch upside the head, causing the man to swear.

the bigger, the better.”

Chapter 176 —

“We don’t have time to talk about you being greedy,” Claire told him. “We need to get help.”

“I vote taking her to Kaleidoscope,” Lan’gny grinned, raising his hand as though they were already counting votes.

“Oh, yes, Kaleidoscope. We can fly her there and everything,” his sister added with a matching grin.

“That’s the end goal,” Claire agreed. “But neither of you can fly far with extra weight.”

The sound of Alpha Hendricks beginning to stir caught everyone’s attention and they turned as one to watch as he slowly prop himself up. “… Beta…?,” he

rasped.
