Chapter 178
CLAIRE
Wow. Hendricks was really something else, Claire thought to herself. He’d turned on his fated mate so fast had to be a record. No wonder Bea wanted nothing to do with the guy; he was pathetic on multiple levels.
The wards she’d placed thanks to the fae twins were beginning to wane. Refreshing them would be a pointless cycle since, once cast, they couldn’t be moved. She needed to think of something else to keep the wolves at bay while simultaneously creating an opening for them to get the hell out of there.
Contrary to how it looked to outsiders, Claire wasn’t worried the twins would turn on them – they were fae and loved causing drama. Most of the time when they acted angry it was just that – an act. This case was no different. Even if they’d been serious, they would soon forget about the argument once something more enticing and fun came along. They were two of the oldest creatures Claire had ever met but acted like fun loving children more often than not. It was a known fact that some fae never matured, while others were born mature; who knew if these two were just good actors or stuck at the maturity
level of a ten year old.
What had surprised Claire the most was hearing the vampire admit he would protect her against them if they made an attempt on her life. It had to be an

“Alpha Hendricks,” the Beta wolf began, hesitating before continuing. “The Riaghaire is on their side. If we attack, he will-”
“My grandfather should have never imprisoned it,” Hendricks snarled. “He should have killed it outright, not try to make it suffer for eternity. I’ll kill the damn monster with my bare hands to make up for his mistake.”
“You’re insane,” laughed the female fae.
“Mmhmm. He thinks he can win against Riaghaire,” Lan’gny giggled. Both of the twins were suddenly in a good mood, the early conflict already forgotten.
“I just have to stall until that spell wears off,” Hendricks told them with a maniacal grin on his stupid face. “And then she’ll die. Even if that thing kills me,
I’ll have won.”
Claire froze. The time spell should last an hour; could he really stall them for that long? Was he actually willing to sacrifice his entire pack – because he would need the numbers to both keep Riaghaire busy and prevent their escape – just to get back at Bea? It was a bit much. How had her friend pissed him off? Actually, now that she thought about it, this wasn’t that surprising.
“Just let them go,” his Beta snapped. “It’s over, remember? You said it yourself; you’re free. No-one else has to die.”
“What’s wrong with you?” Hendricks growled. “You hate her as much as I de.”
The Beta hesitated, his mouth nothing more than a grim line. “I won’t deny I dislike her but that doesn’t mean she deserves to die.”
“The Elders have already sentenced her to death,” Hendricks reminded him, voice heated. “That is what she deserves.”
“They all deserve to die,” Ashcliff agreed, his face twisting into an ugly sneer. “They’ve all shown nothing but disrespect for us, for our ways, and have made threats against not just the Bluemoon pack, but us Elders. Death is the least they deserve.”
“That woman is your kin,” Elder Bluemoon reminded Ashcliff, pointing to Claire. “Do you not feel anything for her?”
“Of course I don’t. She’s nothing but some mixed breed

an abomination.”
Okay, ouch. Claire had called herself far worse
