“Riaghaire,” Claire began, turning her head to look at the vampire who was cradling her best friend, “Take her and run.”

Riaghaire grew still. “You wish me to run?”

“You think we’re incapable of holding off a few stray dogs?” She may have sounded amused but, inside, Claire was worried that, without him, they wouldn’t

stand a chance. “Give us a bit more credit than that.”

“They aren’t alone,” Donovan grunted as he stretched his neck until it popped. “I think, between us, we’ve got a decent chance.”

“Those are some big ass wolves,” Marlow pointed out as they all looked over at the two giant wolves standing between them and the Elders.

“Enforcers,” Donovan shrugged. “Bitches to deal with but if you use magic it should be easy enough to win,”

Claire rolled her eyes. She didn’t want to tell the guy neither she nor the twins could use offense spells – her because she just couldn’t and the twins because the only battles they enjoyed were verbal ones. Marlow wouldn’t have enough magic to be useful for another hour, maybe two, after he’d used such a huge spell – and that’s if they were lucky. That left the two Mchezaji wolves to deal with the enforcers, Elders, Bluemoon wolves, and anyone else who

showed up.

The odds were not in their favour. Not even a little.

The entire point of this endeavour was to get Bea away from the wolves. So long as that happened, they’ll have succeeded. Would the human be pissed that the rest of them were left behind to die while she was taken to safety? Definitely. Did Claire give a shit? Maybe a tiny bit, but not enough to let it affect her

judgment.

“Take her and go, Riaghaire. We’ll handle this,” Claire reiterated with a nod. “Tryst us for once, will you?”

Riaghaire stood up, Bea held firmly in his arms. It looked like she was sleeping but that was far from reality. If she survived it would be a miracle; a hell of

one at that.

“Hurry up and go. The spell won’t last forever,” she snapped this time.

With a slow nod, Riaghaire turned and ran without looking back. It took less than a second before he disappeared from view, leaving them to fend for

themselves.

Claire let out a sigh as she turned back to face the Elders. Her ward had run out during the exchange with Riaghaire.

“Alpha!,” a voice called from the back of the amphitheatre. Glancing over her shoulder, Claire was unhappy to see a man flanked by what looked like a merry band of wolves ready for a fight. She’d been wondering where the other high ranked members in the Bluemoon pack were at, since only the Alpha and Beta had been present.

“Gamma Xavier,” Donovan said in a low voice. Looking over at his own Gamma, he continued, “You up for a fight?”

Porter glanced at his Alpha, beard twitching with an unseen smile. “Thought you’d never ask.”

“You’re allowed to kill this time, not just fend off.”

“You spoil me, Alpha.”

Hangvan let out a grunt. “Remember that next time you have something to complain about.”

Between one second and the next Gamma Porter shifted into a large wolf, clothes tearing in the process. His fur was dark brown, almost black, with a blond streak down his back and left hind He flashed a wolfish smile, showing large fangs, before racing up the aisle towards the gathering mob.

“Give him some help you two,” Claire instructed the fae, who gave eager nods before popping away to cause chaos amongst the wolves Gamma Porter was
