“Did we miss anything fun?,” Ptyrese giggled as her feet touched the ground near Marlow.
“You hurt the puppy,” Lan’gny whined as his eyes fell on the enforcer’s corpse. “I’d wanted to ride him…”
“There’s still one left,” Marlow offered, pointing to where Bahiti had caught up to his target, latching onto a hind leg and refusing to let go.
“Ngh. That one looks mean…”
“Why don’t we switch them?” Ptyrese offered, looking over at Claire, eyes bright with mischief.
“Oh, yes, yes! Claire, let’s switch them.”
“What do you mean, switch them? Switch who with what? And how?” Claire inquired with a frown. She had no idea what they were talking about.
“You’ll feel it,” Lan’gny explained with a cackle as he took off, feet never touching the leaf strewn ground, wings a blur.
“And when you do, switch it for us,” Ptyrese finished before taking off in pursuit of her brother.
The brother dodged the enforcer’s fangs as it tried to catch him. This was enough of a distraction for his sister to land on the giant wolf’s back and grab a fist full of its fur. “It’s not soft,” she complained. “Lan’gny, this sucks.”
As his sister complained, Lan’gny latched himself onto Bahiti’s back, which was a feat when the cream coloured wolf was being shaken like a daiquiri.
“Claire!”
“And they expect me to just know what to do,” Claire grumbled, tugging on the thread that connected her magic to theirs. It was then she became aware of the other fae magics at play. The twins had noticed it at a glance and, instead of telling anyone, they’d decided to play a game. Typical. Now they expected her to use their own magic to shift the tide of battle.
she held one hand up to block her view of the Reaching out with her hands – physical body movements helped facilitate casting magic, at least for Claire giant wolf and the other over Bahiti. When the feel of magic in the palm of her hands steadied, she switched their positions and released the magic-
Whoever had cast the spell knew what they were doing. Claire could see how they’d woven the magic together; the complexity and necessary power required to pull it off made her head hurt. She would never be able to recreate it and she was more than fine with that; fuck if she wanga to have that sort of power It would make Others want her for themselves and she preferred being left the hell alone. Thankfully, she didn’t need to recreate the spell, just alter its flow and intended target.
The enforcer had already begun to shrink in size, causing Lan’gny to let out a whoop as Bahiti experienced a sudden growth spurt.
Bahiti still held onto the leg of his enemy as he grew. With a vicious shake of his head there was a sharp crack, followed by the now much smaller woi! letting out a yelp in pain before silence fell.
After dropping the leg the Mchezaji pack’s Alpha tossed his head back and let out a thunderous howl that informed the world of his victory. It sent shivers down Claire’s spine even as she reminded herself he was on their side. She was safe. Marlow was safe. The twins were safe. Everyone who mattered was safe
The other two, normal sized wolves were still going at it, both now bloodied as neither held anything back.

Chapter 182–
Why they fighting?” Marlow asked.
“I don’t even know who they are,” Claire exclaimed. “I say let’s book it while we can.”
“Awww, they aren’t getting along anymore,” Ptyrese pouted as she popped back next to Claire.
“Getting along?”
Lan’gny was still on Bahiti’s back, riding the wolf like some prized pony. For his part, the Alpha didn’t seem to mind – or perhaps he knew there was nothing he could do about the fae. “Maybe they had a fight.”
Claire held back an exasperated sigh. They were fighting because they had a fight. Lan’gny’s logic was as infuriating as Beatrice was stubborn. Which meant she didn’t want to encourage him by commenting on how unhelpful that was – he’d only Fund amusement in her response.
