Chapter 30: Dirty Piece Of Trash
Riley’s POV
I narrowed my eyes at him.
“Is this a joke? Because if it is, I gotta say–it’s not that funny.”
Silas burst out laughing. “Oh, trust me. I never joke about winning a competition. In fact, here’s the proof.”
He handed me a slip of paper. I took it cautiously and skimmed through.
It was… a transfer approval?
It said that Silas had officially dropped out of his previous team and applied to join ours. And Mrs. Bright had already signed off on it.
“I thought once the teams were locked in, no one could switch,” I said, frowning.
“That’s true-for most people. But sometimes, rules don’t apply to certain people. Especially when that person’s dad is on the school board,” he added with a smug smile.
I rolled my eyes internally.
Of course. Another privileged rich brat. Why was my life constantly filled with this kind of people?
“So… what do you say? Am I in or not?” He shrugged, hands in his pockets. “As you can see, I already dropped out of my old team. If you say no, well… that’d be kinda awkward for me.”
“Maybe you should’ve thought about that before making such an impulsive decision,” I said dryly.
“I don’t need a backup plan. I need a win. And this time, my bet is on you.” His gaze burned into me. “A healer who beat a warrior? I just know I have to team up with you.”
Now, most girls would probably get flustered being stared at by a guy that good-looking. But not me. Lately, my life’s been full of hot guys with weird personalities.
“You can stop flattering me. I don’t get to decide. My teammates do.” I glanced over his shoulder. “And speak of which… here they come.”
Odin and Olivia had just appeared at the top of the stairs.
Odin instantly tensed up when he saw Silas. And Olivia’s eyes went wide, her cheeks turned suspiciously red.
“Riley, get behind me!” Odin rushed over and growled at Silas. “What the hell do you want? The fight was over, we’ve already settled the score!”
Silas just gave a small snort. I answered for him, “Relax, Odin. He’s not here to cause trouble. Believe it or not, he wants to join our team.’
Olivia let out a small squeal and slapped her hands over her mouth.
I shot her a look.
Why didn’t I notice her blushing at Silas yesterday?
“He wants to join our team? Are you serious?” Odin looked shocked. “But… you had the best options. At the very least, you should be on an all-Lycan team.’

“I don’t buy into that ‘Lycans are superior’ crap. Riley already proved that’s nonsense.” Silas shrugged. “So give yourself some credit, man. I really think we can build a strong team together.”
The three of us exchanged glances, and I said, “Maybe it’s time for an internal team meeting.”
Silas gestured with a smile. “Go ahead. I hope you don’t disappoint me with your final decision.”
I nodded at Olivia and Odin, and we slipped into a training room, closing the door behind us.
“Oh. My. God. That’s Silas Crowhurst!”
Olivia whisper-screamed the moment we were alone. Her cheeks were flushed like she had a fever. “He’s the second strongest warrior in school. And the second hottest-right behind our prince Ezra!”
“I think somebody has a crush,” I drawled.
She shot me a glare. “No, I do not, you idiot! I’m just… just saying, this feels like a dream. Silas Crowhurst interested in our lame team? That’s insane!”
“I don’t think we’re lame. Riley beat a warrior yesterday. That probably impressed him,” Odin said proudly.
Olivia rolled her eyes. “You think that’s why he wants to join? Please. Riley just got lucky. She’s not even that good. Silas knew that too.”
“Olivia!” Odin snapped, clearly pissed.
I didn’t care what Olivia thought. Whatever Silas’s reason was for joining us didn’t matter. What mattered was what we were gonna do about it.
“Okay, let’s stay focused. The question is—should we let him join?” I asked.
“You’re kidding, right? That’s even a question?” Olivia’s eyes went wide. “When the second-best warrior in school asks to join your team, you don’t refuse. You don’t even hesitate. You say yes!”
“And you say you don’t have a crush,” her brother snorted. “We should be careful. What if he’s trying to sabotage our chance of winning?”
“Honestly, Odin, we barely have a shot at winning. Silas might be our only chance.” Olivia insisted.
The two glared at each other, then turned to look at me.
“Riley, what do you think?” they asked in unison.
I tapped my chin, thinking.
Silas didn’t give me a bad vibe. Yesterday, he seemed like the only normal one on his team.
And let’s be realistic-just the three of us werewolves weren’t gonna last long in the Hunting Season. Especially not with the number of enemies we’d already made. We needed to buy ourselves an insurance.
After a long pause, I said, “I say we let him in for now. See how well he fits with us. If he boosts our chances of winning, then I’m willing to take the risk.”
Olivia squealed in excitement. Odin sighed. “You’re such a gambler, Riley. But fine. Let’s do it your way.”
I smiled at Olivia. “How about you go give Silas the good news?”
It was obvious she liked him. I figured giving them a chance to bond might help stabilize the team.

She squeaked again and dashed out.
A few minutes later, she came back with Silas, her face red as an apple.
“Thanks, Riley.” Silas looked straight at me, eyes gleaming with ambition. “You won’t regret this. That Hunting Season trophy is ours now.”
It may sound like bragging if it comes from other people. But with this guy? He might actually be telling the truth.
I nodded. “Then let’s go make it happen.”
Turns out, letting Silas join might’ve been the smartest thing I’ve ever done.
The guy was a tactical genius. Experienced, strong, and sharp as hell. We’d only trained together for one morning, and already our teamwork felt tighter, stronger.
Odin and Olivia were practically bouncing with excitement. For the first time, they actually felt like winning was possible.
We were still talking strategy as we walked into the cafeteria. And suddenly, someone came charging at me, hand raised high.
My body reacted before my brain did.
I grabbed her wrist and yanked it down hard. Then I saw it clearly—it was Layla.
