Chapter 31 Want To Win
Chapter 31: Want To Win
Riley’s POV
Layla stared at Ezra in shock. When she met his freezing green eyes, she suddenly trembled.
“What’s all this, Ezra? I thought you hated that woman,” she stammered.

Ezra looked at her coldly, as if she were a bug. “I can hate her because I’m the heir of this kingdom. And you are just a filthy rat. How dare you insult the kingdom’s new queen in front of everyone?”
Layla probably realized he wasn’t joking. Her face went deathly pale, and she staggered back a step. “I… I didn’ know… I’m sorry, Ezra…”
“Now you know,” he said with disgust. Then he suddenly grabbed my arm and pulled me forward a step. “And you shouldn’t be apologizing to me. Say it to Riley.”
Her face instantly twisted, as if she’d swallowed a fly. I had no doubt she’d rather run out and jump into a river than apologize to me publicly.
And honestly, I didn’t care for it either.
So I spoke up: “Forget it, I don’t need-”
But Silas cut me off. He stepped forward, standing on my other side. He and Ezra flanked me like two mountains.
“I agree. Layla must apologize to Riley,” he said loudly, loud enough for everyone in the room to hear. “I already said joining Riley’s team was my own choice, yet you kept chasing her down to humiliate her. Actually, you know what? I’m glad I ditched you for Riley. She’s proven herself a strong, brave fighter, while all you do is bitch and moan.”
Layla’s face went from white to red. She trembled all over, looking like she’d been whipped.
The cafeteria was dead silent too. Those who had cheered for Layla before were now quiet, only daring to sneak glances in our direction, not even daring to breathe loudly.
“I… I’m sorry,” Layla finally squeezed out.
“Sorry for what?” Ezra pressed coldly.
“For… for saying those things about you and your mother,” she stammered, tears suddenly welling up in her eyes. “I didn’t mean it, please forgive me…”
I was speechless.
God, why is she crying now? It makes it look like I’m the bully and she’s the victim.
“Forget it. Just don’t go looking for trouble in the future,” I said flatly.
She sniffled, wiped her tears, and fled back to her table. I saw a few girls at her table gather around her. They huddled together, whispering low, while shooting angry glares back at me.
I rolled my eyes, then turned to my teammates. “Let’s go get our food.”
“Right, I’m starving,” Ezra chimed in as naturally as if he were one of my teammates. “Hansen, go find us a table.”
The biggest guy in his team immediately nodded and walked over to a table occupied by only two students. Those

two grabbed their trays and fled as soon as they saw him coming, leaving the whole table to us.

Silas walked to the table with hands in his pocket and humming a tune. Olivia and Odin exchanged a look, then went over and took their seats.
“Wait, why are we suddenly having lunch with you?” I hissed under my breath.
“Because you’re grateful I saved your ass god knows how many times?” he gave me a dazzling grin. Now come sit down. Don’t be a buzzkill.”
The others had all taken their seats and were looking at me. I sighed internally and went to sit next to Silas. “So, do you regret joining this all-werewolf team, Silas?” a red-haired girl asked provocatively,
“Why would I?” Silas replied with a lazy smile. “I found the healer who suits me best. And she turns out to be a smokin’ hot girl. Everything’s just perfect.”
Ezra narrowed his eyes from across the table. Suddenly he seemed less happy. I pretended not to see his death
stare.
“But still, having just one Lycan makes it almost impossible to win during Hunting Season. Why would you choose such a hard path for yourself?” that huge guy named Hansen asked with a frown.
*God, they’re so full of themselves. I set down my apple juice and looked at them. “I noticed you have 5 warriors.
Why didn’t you pick a healer?”
Every single healer in this school was dying to be on their team-except for me, of course. At least I knew Danica would join in a heartbeat.
But after I refused Ezra, he seemed to have completely given up on finding another healer. This team was now five big warriors.
Ezra’s lips curled into a smile. “Because everyone in this team is strong enough not to get hurt. So we don’t need a healer.”
Odin let out a very disdainful snort beside me. I shrugged. “You think three werewolves and a Lycan can’t win. But I’m telling you, a team without a healer has even less chance.”
The group across from us let out a chorus of disdainful scoffs, some rolling their eyes, some exchanging mocking looks with their friends. Ezra didn’t say anything, but the way he looked at me told me he thought I was full of bullshit.
“Wanna bet?” Silas suddenly leaned forward, his voice and eyes totally excited. “Don’t wait till the actual competition. Let’s have a pre-season practice match. Just our two teams. Let’s find out which team is stronger.”
A wave of excited chatter spread around the table.
Those Lycans looked like they could barely wait to jump up, rush out the door, and give us a good beating right then.
Ezra tapped his finger on the table, and immediately all his teammates quieted down. It seemed they obeyed his orders unconditionally, even more than they respected King Soren.
Ezra crossed his arms and looked directly at me, a challenging smile on his lips.
“I’m good with a bet. But what are the stakes?”
“Stakes?” I frowned, suddenly getting a very bad feeling.

That red-haired girl immediately picked up on Ezra’s meaning. “Right, what’s the point without stakes? We’re all busy. Don’t have time to waste with you.”
I scoffed. They acted like they’d already won. In terms of arrogance, this whole bunch was just like their captain. Alright then. If we win, all five of you will be my slaves for a week.”
All their faces changed.
“Your slave?!” Hansen’s face darkened, looking deeply insulted. “We are Lycans. How can we be slaves to a werewolf like you? Not to mention you’re…”
He paused, then forcibly swallowed the rest of his sentence. I knew what he wanted to say. It was definitely another insult about my mother. I was the homewrecker’s daughter, so I was naturally morally flawed.
“That’s my condition. Why? Are you afraid?” I raised an eyebrow defiantly.
There was a wave of angry growls. Then the red-haired girl said furiously, “The rest of us are one thing, but how dare you ask Ezra to be your slave? He is our prince! The most noble person—”
“That’s enough, Lisa,” Ezra cut her off.
He leaned forward, his green eyes locking onto mine. “OK, I can be your slave, Riley. I can pick you up from school, drop you off, carry your bags, call you ‘master,’ even kneel down and change your fucking slippers for yo I’m good with all those shits.”
“But Ezra-” one of his teammates cried out indignantly.
“Quiet,” he said icily, a predatory gleam in his eyes as he kept staring at me. “But if you lose, I want you to climb to the highest point of the school, strip off all your clothes, and tell everyone you’re a fucking bitch.”
My heart sank.
Every time I thought our relationship was improving and he was starting to help me, he’d come around and humiliate me all over again. Any tiny bit of gratitude I felt for him helping me against Layla vanished right then
and there.
Maybe I should never believe he has a good side.
This monster is just pure evil.
“Are you kidding me?” Odin gritted, red with anger. “No way Riley is doing that.”
Ezra raised an eyebrow, throwing my own words right back at us: “Why? Are you afraid?”
