Chapter 33: You Are My Slave

Riley’s POV

My heart instantly jumped to my throat.

“What the hell are you talking about?” I snapped.

Silas’s eyebrow flew even higher. “Why so mäd? I’m just messing with you. Or did I just strike a nerve?” “No, you didn’t. It’s just a very, VERY bad joke,” I gritted out.

“That’s right. It isn’t funny, Silas,” Odin said sternly. He looked just as pissed. “Ezra is Riley’s brother-” “Stepbrother,” Silas corrected.

“Even so, they are still related! And everyone knows Ezra absolutely hates Riley. He’d do anything to hurt her. That joke is bad and cruel.”

Silas scoffed, glanced at my and Odin’s angry faces, and then said with a shrug, “Sure, I’m sorry. But I still think Riley should be the one to block Ezra. She’d be the most unexpected choice. I’ll handle the other teammates, and you go for the flagpole.”

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart.

Putting personal feelings aside, this was indeed the most logical plan. But just the thought of facing Ezra alone made my throat go dry and my skin feel hot.

“So, we all agree,” Silas said, clapping his hands together. “Okay, spread out, get ready. We’d better win this round because I don’t want to lose the first match with you guys.”

I clenched my fists and walked toward the center line. My ears were buzzing from the adrenaline.

Facing Ezra one-on-one.

How terrifying was that?

But at the same time, wasn’t it just as exciting?

Ever since I came to this city, all I wanted to do was to show that jerk I wasn’t a pushover. And now, here was my perfect chance for revenge.

Odin quickly caught up to me. He lowered his voice. “About what Silas just said… About you and Ezra…”

“Silas is full of bullshit sometimes,” I cut him off quickly. “You saw how Ezra treated me before. You should understand our relationship better than anyone.”

Yet Odin hesitated for a long moment before speaking again, his voice slightly tense. “But sometimes I can’t help but wonder… that it’s not as simple as it seems. And we never got a chance to talk about that kiss between us.”

I was already agitated about the match, and he was bringing up the last thing I wanted to deal with. So I stopped abruptly in my tracks. He almost bumped into me.

“You really want to talk about this now?!” I snapped. “How about we talk about how your sister threw a tantrum for no reason and bailed on us? Winning this match is the only thing I care about right now. Because if we lose, I’m the one who has to climb to the top of the building and strip naked!”

His brown eyes fixed on me, filled with a complicated look. And then he said, “Don’t worry, Riley. I won’t let them

do that to you.”

After saying that, he didn’t bring up the topic again, but turned and walked to his starting position.

I took several more deep breaths, then turned to face our opponents. Those Lycans had clearly heard our argument because the mocking smiles on their faces grew even wider. Maybe they thought victory was already in their grasp.

The referee raised his hand and put the whistle to his lips.

A sharp whistle blast.

The second half began!

Almost all the Lycans charged at Silas simultaneously. Even though Silas was huge, for a brief second I still worried that he might get crushed to death. And Odin shot out at his top speed beside me, so fast he was almost a blur.

And I had my own mission.

I launched myself straight at Ezra!

His green eyes flashed with clear surprise-he hadn’t expected me to be the one blocking him this round!

As I lunged at him, he actually instinctively reached out as if to catch me. I grabbed his shoulders and tackled him hard to the ground.

“They sent you?!” he growled in disbelief.

“What? I’m not worthy of your opponent?”

I pinned him down and threw a punch straight at his face.

I’ll admit there was some pent-up anger behind that punch. Ever since I arrived here, his unwarranted hostility, his mind games, his sarcastic remarks, how he organized the whole school to bully me, and how he kissed and controlled me when no one was looking.

EVERYTHING. I was so sick of everything about him!

He jerked his head to the side, and my punch missed. Wolf claws extended from my fingertips. With a roar, I drove them toward his eyes.

Screams erupted from the watching crowd. He grabbed my wrist, stopping me in midair. His expression was

savage.

“You really want to kill me?” he snarled.

His grip was so strong I felt like my bones were about to be crushed. I gritted my teeth. “Don’t you want to kill me? You hate my mother, and you hate me! You’d kill me too if you got the chance!”

A flicker of anger and pain crossed his face. Then, with a loud roar, he flipped us over, pinning me beneath him. His fingers, strong as iron chains, wrapped around my throat, and I instantly couldn’t breathe.

“Maybe I should kill you,” he leaned down, his voice hoarse and dangerous. “That would end all this. Then I wouldn’t have to be controlled by this fucking matebond anymore!”

He was controlled by the matebond?

I thought I was the only one being controlled by this connection.

Seems even the great Lycan heir can’t defy the Moon Goddess’s arrangement.

I wanted to laugh in his face. But I couldn’t breathe. My vision was getting blurry.

Just as I thought he might really strangle me to death, another sharp whistle blast sounded, followed by the referee’s loud announcement:

“MATCH OVER!”

Ezra instantly let go of me. I immediately rolled over, coughing violently, and raised my head to see what was happening.

The match was over? Who won?!

The Lycans? Or us?

I first heard angry, disbelieving shouts from the crowd. Clearly, half the school had gathered to watch our match. And almost everyone was booing and shaking their heads right now.

And then I saw him. Odin. Standing in the Lycans’ half of the field, holding their flagpole high in the air!

My heart gave a massive leap.

It’s us.

WE WON.

We beat the Lycans!!!!

I let out a triumphant shout, spread my arms, and ran to Odin. He laughed, threw the flagpole aside, and caught me in a hug. Silas also came running, yelling, and wrapped his arms around both of us.

“We won! WE WON!!!” he shouted.

Then the two of them lifted me up and tossed me into the air. I shrieked, then burst out laughing.

God, I couldn’t remember the last time I was this happy!

My chest was filled with pure joy. It was like even the Moon Goddess was smiling at me!

When we finally calmed down a little, we realized we were the only three this happy on the entire field. The whole watching crowd looked at us in angry silence. Some people even looked outraged.

Ezra and his team were also watching us coldly. That red-haired Lisa girl clenched her fists and snapped, “You tricked us! That match doesn’t count!”

The smile vanished from my face. I said icily, “Trick? What the hell are you talking about?”

“They sent you to block Ezra! You deliberately used your relationship-

“Relationship? Even though we live under the same roof, all we have between us is hatred and disgust. I thought you knew that,” I let out a cold, mocking laugh. “I didn’t know Lycans were such sore losers. Pathetic.”

“We’re not sore losers! We just want fairness! If you dare, we’ll have a rematch!” Hansen cried. His words actually won a wave of agreement from the onlookers.

“Why the hell should we have a rematch?” Silas said loudly. “We won this one fair and square. Yeah, we used an
