Chapter 47: Cold Shoulder
Riley’s POV
Mateo’s men contacted me later that day. Turns out Mateo’d handed the feedicine off to one of his guys before he was caught. Maybe he sensed this trip was dangerous, but he still took the risk for me.
I applied the ointment with the/Lycan blood to my law wound, and it heated overnight.
The next day, the healers treated my foot using the method I’d given there. It worked perfectly. I should be fully recovered before the Hunting Season starts.
The only thing going wrong in my life right now was Ezra.
I texted him the morning after Mateo got arrested.
[Can you come over to the hospital? We need to talk.]
But he never replied.
This was the first time he’d ignored me. We’d been through rough times before. Times when he turned the whole school against me. Times when he humiliated me in public. Times when he yelled at me, even cursed me out.
But he’d never just ignored me like this.
If he wouldn’t talk to me, there was no way I could get Mateo out of jail. He might not be in immediate danger, but who knew? If Ezra got in a bad mood, he could convict Mateo anytime. And then everything would be too late.
I needed to make him let Mateo go.
I kept texting and calling. But Ezra never picked up. I even started to wonder if he’d blocked me.
Seriously, was he really this mad? All I did was plead for my friend. He’d have done the same thing!
[Can you stop acting like a baby?]
[If you want me to apologize, fine. But at least talk to me.]
Of course, those messages vanished into thin air too.
The sky outside went dark, and that was another day Mateo spent in jail. I heard the Full Moon Pack’s dungeons were horrible -even sane people would go crazy after a while. Mateo didn’t deserve this. He didn’t do anything wrong. It should have been

I couldn’t just sit around waiting for Ezra to come around anymore. I had to find a way to make him talk to me.
So I called the castle butler and asked for Ezra’s bodyguard’s number. I remembered that big guy’s name was Seth. Wherever Ezra went, he followed.
I dialed the number I got, and Seth picked up on the first ring.
“Hi, Seth? It’s Riley.”
“Oh! Hello, Miss Riley.” There was a lot of noise in the background. I couldn’t tell where he was.
“Sorry to track down your number like this. But I really need to talk to Ezra. Can you put him on?”
“Umm…” Even over the phone, Seth’s voice sounded awkward. “I’m really sorry, Miss Riley, but Prince Ezra doesn’t want to talk to you.”
I gripped my phone tighter. “You haven’t even asked him yet.”
But what was happening now? Why did it hurt so much?
Was it because he was starting to mean something to me?
Then a new wave of fear washed over me.
What’s more terrifying than falling on a sword? Falling for a player like Ezra.
If I didn’t control my heart, getting played and then miserably dumped would be my only fate.

The next day, the healer signed my discharge papers.
Nobody came to pick me up. Not even my mom. One of the nurses was kind enough to help me pack and walk me to the door.
She helped me get a cab to the castle. As we waited by the roadside, the nurse suddenly gasped:
“Oh my god, who is that?”
I whipped my head around.
A bright red sports car had just screeched to a stop at the curb. The driver’s door opened, and Ezra stepped out, his handsome face expressionless.
“That’s Prince Ezra!” The nurse looked like she was about to faint from excitement. “Oh my god, I’ve never seen him in person … He’s just as tall, strong, and handsome as they say. He looks like a god.”
I watched him coldly from a distance. The nurse pressed her hand to her chest, blushing. “I heard he hasn’t found his mate yet, so everyone still has a chance. It would be such a romantic story if he ended up with a common girl like me…”
“Yeah, sure, as long as you can put up with his dozen other girlfriends,” I said icily.
Just then, a curvy, very attractive girl jumped out of the passenger seat. She clicked toward him in her high heels, linked her arm through his, and rested her head affectionately on his shoulder.
A surge of rage flooded my chest like hot lava.
“Wait here. I’ll be right back,” I gritted out, then strode over to them.
The girl was whining something at Ezra, pressing her huge boobs against his arm like she couldn’t stand straight on herself.
I rushed over as fast as I could and stopped right in front of them.
“Didn’t you get my messages?” I asked, staring directly at Ezra.

His cold gaze slid over my face, then looked away like he didn’t know me. That pretty girl started squeaking, “Who the hell are you? Ezra, do you know her?”
