Chapter 48: We’ll Fuck

Riley’s POV

The air went still around us.

Everything around me just faded away. All I could hear was my thumping heartbeat.

Then I started to regret everything before I even pulled away.

Shit. Shit. Shit!

What was I even thinking?

Kissing Ezra in front of this girl?

Was I trying to prove that I mattered more to him than she did? God, it was so stupid!

Fear overwhelmed me. I quickly stumbled back, pulling away from him.

He stood there stiffly, his bright, dazzling green eyes locked onto me without blinking. His gorgeous face was expressionless, so I had no idea what was going through his mind. But I could already imagine the worst.

Any second now, he’d start brutally mocking me. Saying things like, “You were so shy before, and I didn’t know you can be this forward.” or “You in love with me or something? Don’t. You mean no shit to me.”

Fuck. I couldn’t handle that kind of humiliation.

I decided to be a coward and run for it.

So I turned abruptly to escape the scene. But before I could take a single step, a large hand grabbed my arm.

Ezra yanked me back into his arms forcefully. Then he grabbed my chin and forced me to look at him.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he asked roughly.

My whole face felt like it was on fire. “Let me go.”

“You just kissed me and now you expect me to let you go?” He tightened his grip. “No fucking way. You aren’t going anywhere.”

I stared at him in disbelief.

Who exactly had been giving me the cold shoulder for the past few days? And now he could stand me leaving? 1

And that pretty girl finally snapped back to reality. She let out a hysterical shriek and pointed at me.

“You–this is sexual assault, you disgusting piece of trash!”

I shot her a freezing look.

She turned to Ezra, panicked and furious, and cried out, “Babe, you have to have your guards arrest her! Put her in jail! God, I can’t believe there’s such a disgusting woman… I can’t believe she kissed you right in front of—”

Ezra cut her off. “Of course she can kiss me.”

The girl’s mouth dropped open.

“She can also hug me, touch me, and do whatever she wants with me,” he raised an eyebrow. “Now it’s you who needs to fuck off.”

Her face went pale. She stammered, “B–But, I don’t understand… This isn’t fair! You promised me you would—”

“Get lost. Or I’ll make you regret raising your hand at Riley,” he said icily.

Tears quickly welted up in the girl’s eyes. She shot me aft angry giare, then turned and ran off, covering her face and sobbing.

“That’s a bit cruel, isn’t it?” I watched her retreating back. “You asked her out. Can you just ditch her like that?”

“I didn’t see you complaining just a second ago.” He snorted, and then added, “I saw you smirk.”

Then he scooped me up and carried me over to a nearby bench.

“Let me see how your foot is doing.”

He bent down to take off my shoe, but I grabbed his wrist.

“Why do you care? You didn’t seem to give a damn about me for the past two days,” I gritted out.

He gave me a cold look. “I know you only called to talk about your friend Mateof’d rather spend my time on more meaningful things.”

“Like partying with Candy?” I sneered.

He raised an eyebrow. “You jealous?”

I felt my face flush. I tried to turn away, but he stopped me.

“Riley, why did you kiss me?”

He stared straight at me, like he was looking into my soul. I found myself drowning in those green eyes, with nowhere to hide.

Why did I kiss him? Honestly, I didn’t know. It was an impulse. As for the reason behind it… I couldn’t figure it out, and I was afraid to think too hard about it.

“I—I don’t know,” I finally said, stammering a little. “I just didn’t like… didn’t like that girl. That’s all… It doesn’t mean anything else.”

His expression turned cold. “You kissed your stepbrother just because you didn’t like his girlfriend? Can you really convince yourself with that fucking ridiculous excuse?”

“I don’t know! Stop asking me-

“You have to know.” His eyes burned like wildfire, blazing so brightly it made me tremble. “I won’t let you avoid me anymore. I won’t let you mess around with any of those fucking men. You’re mine, Riley, just like our matebond says.”

I gritted my teeth and glared at him.

Of course he wouldn’t give a fuck about all the complicated stuff between us. Like how we were step–siblings and our parents would never allow us to be together. Like how he was a Lycan and I was a werewolf. Or how he was a player who I knew would never settle down.

Maybe he just wanted me as a new toy.

And when he got bored and left, I’d be the one left dealing with the consequences.

But even knowing all that, when he looked at me like this, I could feel my heart slipping.

“Don’t mention that fucking man again,” he snapped.

“Hear me out!” I took a deep breath and laid out my terms. “During the Hunting Season, if your final ranking is higher than mine, I’ll honestly tell you what my feelings are. But if I rank higher, you let Mateo go.”
