Chapter 52: Shameless Robbers
Riley’s POV
I stood there, my hands and legs still shaking from the fight.
We poured everything we had into this and barely came out alive. And those robbers were just going to steal it?
“Shame on you!!!” Odin’s face twisted with anger. “This is against the rules! I’m going to report you all to the school board!”
But our enemies only answered with a round of mocking laughter.
“Rules? Which rule says we can’t reap the rewards of someone else’s hard work?” Carnila smirked. “Blame yourselves for being so stupid.”
Odin froze.
She was right. None of the four rules the principal announced banned stealing.
“Now get the fuck away from our prize. You’re blocking the way,” Kade cursed.
He jumped down from the cliff, bent over, and grabbed the tag from one of the boars’ necks. You needed the tag from each beast to add the points to your team.
I strode forward and pointed my knife at Kade. “Put it down.”
“Or what? You gonna kill me? You can barely stand,” he sneered, glancing at my teammates. “Neither can they.”
My heart sank. Even Silas, our strongest fighter, was covered in wounds now. There was no way he could take on this many.
These bastards waited until we were at our weakest to rob us. Shame on them!
“Listen to Kade,” Danica spoke up, her voice dripping with fake sweetness. “There’s no need for us to fight each other.”
“And says the shameless thief. Fuck off,” I said icily.
“Danica’s only trying to be nice and this is your fucking attitude?” Camila screeched. “That’s it. Guys, kill her!”
Kade roared and lunged at me, his axe raised high. I barely got my blade up to block him. The clash of weapons echoed through the valley.
Silas and Odin yelled and tried to rush to help me. But they were quickly blocked by the other competitors swarming down the
cliff.
“You don’t belong here. This is the Lycans’ game. Go back to your shithole, mutt!” Kade growled.
ľ
I barely dodged his strike. The wound on my shoulder screamed in pain. I spat at him, “You’ll regret this.”
He laughed even louder. “Regret it? Never. When I kill you and toss your body into the Ironback Boars’ den, no one will ever know what really happened. And people will forget you soon enough. Because you’re just that unimportant.”
He grabbed my throat and lifted me into the air. I struggled, gasping.
“Such a waste of a pretty face,” he stared at me, his eyes gleaming with bloodthirst. “Enjoy your last seconds. Your dear stepbrother isn’t here to save you this time-”
“Who says I’m not?” a voice suddenly said from above us.
Whoosh.
Kade froze.

He looked down slowly.
A short sword had pierced through his back and out of his chest. Blood was spreading across his shirt.
He opened his mouth but didn’t even get a scream out before collapsing. Our enemies oried out in panic. “Who’s there?!”
That’s when we saw huge figures emerge from the shadows on the opposite cliff.
Ezra stood at the front, one foot on a rock, one hand still raised in a throwing stance. His green eyes gleamed coldly.
He leaped down from the cliff and strode toward me.
“That’s-that’s Ezra!”
The robbers shrieked in terror, trying to flee. But Ezra punched one right to the ground. His other teammates quickly cleaned up the rest.
Ezra walked over, kicked the unconscious Kade aside, and pulled me into his arms.
“You alright?” he asked, looking down at me with a frown.
“Y-Yeah,” I gulped.
“Ezra!” Camila shouted from the cliff above. She was clearly shocked by this sudden turn of events, her face still pale. “Are you sure you want to help her? This is the Hunting Season. Riley is your competition too.”
Ezra let out a cold laugh. “Yeah, we’re opponents. But I’m not shameless enough to rob them of their prize. You worthless trash really know how to hit new lows.”
Everyone flinched at his words. Danica’s eyes welled with tears as she stammered, “W-We didn’t plan this. We just happened to walk by and saw Riley’s team down here… And it was all Kade’s idea…”
“I don’t care whose idea it was,” Ezra cut her off sharply, his expression fierce. “Fuck off now. Or you all end up like Kade.”
They didn’t need much convincing. The crowd on the cliff scattered immediately, abandoning their teammates below.
“What about him?” I looked down at Kade. The jerk was still bleeding, unconscious.
“He’ll survive,” Ezra said coldly. He pulled me closer and examined my wounds, his face darkening.
“Maybe I should never let you out of my sight,” he gritted out.
My face heated up. “Don’t forget we’re still competitors now,” I whispered warningly. He rolled his eyes at me.
“Why is he here?!” Olivia suddenly shouted.
She stood up leaning on Odin, her eyes full of suspicion and hostility.
“You still insist you didn’t tell him where our camp was?” she pointed at me, shrieking. “Otherwise, how did he and his teammates find us?”
“Other teams found us too. Did I tell all of them?” I said icily.
“Well, maybe. Out of the four of us, you look the most like a traitor. And who knows? Maybe you carved that note yourself, tricked us into abandoning our camp, and led us right into Kade’s trap…”
“I left that note,” Ezra said abruptly.
My teammates looked at him in shock. So did L
It was really him? But why? Had he been following us?

“y-You hear him? He admitted it! He left that threatening note!” Olivia screamed, jumping up and pointing at me. “So Riley must have told him where we were. I knew she was a traitor!”
“Calm down, Olivia,” Silas said quietly. “Ezra didn’t hurt us. If anything, he saved us,

“Who knows what he’s really up/to? Maybe he saved us just to steal our prize, just like Kade!” Olivia cried.
Ezra crossed his arms and let ont a dismissive snort, Hansen, that big guy on his team, snapped, “Show some respect for our prince, or I’ll snap your little neck like a fucking twig!”
Olivia flinched and quickly hid behind her brother. “See? I know they are here to hurt us. Kade’s a robber, and they’re no better.”
