Chapter 112
“Wow, look at this place. How did you even find somewhere like this?” she asked, her gaze wandering over the scenery in amazement.
Clair
I rubbed the back of my neck, feeling a little exposed. Here goes me, about to explain something
I’ve never really told anyone.
“It didn’t always look like this,” I said, gesturing around us. “But the waterfall’s always been here.
She watched me closely, her attention soft but focused, and it made me continue. “I planted all the
flowers myself,” I added quietly.
Each one represented a time I’d been angry or upset, instead of taking it out on someone, I came here. It’s why this place means so much to me. But still, the thought makes me laugh at myself. An Alpha with a hobby like planting flowers, it sounds ridiculous even to me.
“Well, it’s beautiful,” she said, meeting my eyes. “You must have put in a lot of work.”
I didn’t even realize I was nodding until I did, strangely proud of the compliment she was giving me.
“So… Do you like it?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper, thinking she wouldn’t hear it.
“Yes,” she said, smiling. “I do. It’s even better than I imagined.”
Met out a quiet sigh, one I hadn’t realized I’d been holding.
She turned back toward the waterfall, her tone lighter now. “But,” she added, “you could’ve at least
brought something to eat.” she says teasingly.
A small laugh escaped me. “Like a picnic?”
She nodded eagerly, turning back at me, and something about the way she smiled made me
pause. I had to wonder what changed, why she wasn’t scared anymore, why she spoke to me so
freely now.
“Days ago, you weren’t like this,” I said, studying her face.
She studied me briefly, before turning her attention to one of the flowers. “Well… if you’re not going to reject me, I might as well accept my fate,” she said, her voice calm but distant.
“And if I did reject you?” I asked, curious but unsure if I really wanted her answer.
She faced me, eyes unwavering. “Then I’ll live, just like I always have.” she said simply.
“And you’d prefer that?” I asked quietly. “You’d rather live like that than be mated to me?”

But her reply wasn’t what I expected. “I don’t think so,” she said.
The words froze me where I stood. My fists clenched instinctively. “You’re lying,” I said sharply, my
tone firmer than I intended.
Her brows furrowed slightly, but she didn’t move. She just stood there, watching me with the same
quiet defiance.
“You made it clear you wanted nothing to do with the Maxwells,” I continued, irritation creeping
into my voice for reasons I didn’t even understand.
Then she began to walk toward me, her steps light, eyes never leaving mine, as if wanting to know
the man underneath it all.
“Yes,” she said when she stopped just inches away. “I never wanted anything to do with the
Maxwells. But I wasn’t lying.”
Her voice softened, but her eyes didn’t waver. “Apart from my fear of the Maxwells, what makes you think I’d rather go back to that life than be with you?”
“Because you’ve made it clear,” I said, though my voice betrayed the rush of heat in my chest, she
was too close.
“And now I’m saying I’d rather be with you than live the life I had before,” she replied, holding my gaze. “So why does it seem like you’re the one trying to back out now?”
Her words left me breathless. I didn’t know what to say. I just stood there, staring at her, my heart
thudding hard against my ribs, because for the first time, I wasn’t sure how I felt anymore.
“I spoke with a friend,” she said quietly, breaking the silence, her eyes searching mine. “And it made
me realize I shouldn’t keep running from you. So, if you’re wondering what changed-it’s me. I’m
giving you a chance to know you better. To not judge you because of what your sister did to me.”
Her voice was calm, but it struck something deep inside me.
If only she knew who she was giving that chance to.
I’m not a good man. A good man doesn’t drug his father and leave him half alive just to take the
Alpha seat. What would she think about me when she found that out? When she saw that I’m no
better than Bella whom she feared?
“You’ve heard the rumors circulating, haven’t you?” I asked, my tone low “That I am the one responsible for my father’s paralysis”
She nodded slowly, watching me with quiet curiosity.

“Well,” I said, letting out a breath. “They’re true. Every word of it. I made him that way. I paralyzed him, took his title, took everything that was his. So tell me, what more do you want to know?”
I asked, expecting her to feel insecure, expecting her to tell me she wanted to leave, expecting to see her tremble but she remained silent still watching me, but then asked, “Why did you do it?”
I froze.
