She straightened herself and met my gaze. I offered her a small, reassuring smile. “Please, sit,” I
said, motioning to the chair across from me. She moved gracefully, but there was a heaviness in her step, something sorrowful in the way her shoulders slumped.
When she sat, she cleared her throat softly, her voice breaking as she spoke. “I know you’re probably wondering why I came here today,” she said, eyes glistening like she’d been crying for
hours.
“No worries,” I said gently, trying to make my tone as calm and understanding as possible. She nodded slightly, pressing her lips together as though to stop them from trembling.
“Since the Alpha isn’t around,” she began again, her hands clasping tightly in her lap, “I came to you
I’d like to file for a divorce.”
The strain in her voice was unmistakable, each word sounding like it cost her strength to say.
I knew it wasn’t really my place to ask her why, but looking at her, so fragile and lost-I couldn’t help feeling a pang of pity. So this was why Alex needed time off. Something must have gone terribly
wrong.
“I see…” I said softly, then hesitated before asking, “But, Miranda, why would you want to divorce
your husband?”
Her eyes flickered, and she broke into tears before I could say another word. I stood up quickly and went to her side, her body trembling as I placed a hand gently on her shoulder.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered between sobs.
“Hey, there’s nothing to be sorry for,” I told her quietly. “Just tell me what happened.”
She looked down, her tears dripping onto her clasped hands. “It’s my own greed,” she began
shakily. “I wanted both his title and my true mate for myself… and now, I’ve lost everything.”
I frowned slightly, unsure what she meant. Seeing my confusion, she exhaled shakily, her fingers twisting the fabric of her dress.
“When Alex rejected you and chose me,” she continued, “I already knew who my mate was. I kept it
from him. I lied because I wanted to have it all and because of that, he rejected you for me.”
I smiled faintly, more out of disbelief than anything else. “That’s all in the past,” I said, “but why are
you telling me this now?”

She nodded, her lips trembling again as her eyes filled with fresh tears. “Because… he caught she whispered. “He caught me making love to my true mate.”

For a moment, I froze. That I moved back instinctively a bit. She had what? I blinked twice, staring at her in shock as she gave a bitter, broken smile.
“I know,” she said quickly, “you’re shocked too, aren’t you? That’s why I need this divorce/ I need to
let him be free.”
I slowly nodded, though inside, my mind was spinning.
She had cheated on Alex. Anyone would break after something like that. No wonder he needed time away, to heal, to breathe, to figure out what was left of himself. I didn’t even want to imagine
what he must be going through.
“Alright,” I said at last, steadying my voice. “But if you want a divorce, both of you need to be present for it.” It was protocol-nothing could be done without both parties.
She shook her head miserably. “After that day, he left. I haven’t seen him since. I went to his father’s
house, but they threw me out.”
That was expected. Honestly, I would’ve done the same if I were in their place.
I exhaled slowly, trying not to let my frustration show. This matter was already much bigger than me, and Osborne had enough on his plate as Alpha. I didn’t want to add more burdens to his mind.
“I see,” I said quietly. “I know it’s not really my concern, but… why continue seeing your mate after being married? Why lie to Alex?” My tone hardened slightly-firm, but not cruel.
She swallowed, looking away. “The bond was too real,” she murmured. “I couldn’t ignore it.”
I almost scoffed. Bullshit. I didn’t say it aloud, but it echoed loud in my mind. She didn’t deserve
pity, not after deceiving her husband like that. At least Alex had rejected me openly and cleanly.
She’d gone behind his back, pretending.
If Osborne ever dared such a thing with me… I’d kill him myself. But he wouldn’t. He knew better.
Taking a deep breath, I steadied my thoughts. “If that’s the case, Miranda,” I asked calmly, “do you
plan to go back to your true mate after the divorce?”
Her lip quivered, and more tears rolled down her face, this time heavier, unrestrained. “I don’t even
know where he is,” she confessed between sobs. “After Alex found out, he ran away with his
mother.”
Then she broke down completely, crying for the very man she’d chosen over her husband.
The nerve of her.

After her tears finally subsided, Miranda took a deep, shaky breath. The silence that followed felt
heavy, almost suffocating, and I knew there was nothing more to say. What was done was done.
All I could do now was give her what she wanted, a divorce-but I’d have to contact Alex myself first. Or perhaps reach out to his father. And definitely Osborne. I doubted he knew about any of
this. Alex could be so secretive at times, especially when it came to matters of the heart.
“Sadly, I have something I need to attend to,” I told her gently, keeping my voice calm and
measured. “When everything is settled, you’ll get the divorce you want.”
She nodded slowly, her face still streaked with tears as she stood up. I followed suit/”Thank you
for listening to me,” she said softly, and for a moment, I almost felt pity for her again. Almost.
