Chapter 129
Maurice

We had just arrived at the cathedral, which meant Octavia would soon be here. I’d been itching to see her since morning, but of course-tradition had to get in the way. That ridiculous rule that a man must not lay eyes on his bride until she walks down the aisle.
Down the aisle…
Just imagining her coming toward me, radiant and breathtaking, made a smile tug at my lips. Octavia would be the most beautiful sight in this entire cathedral. Soon, she and I would be bound
as one. Something I had craved for so long-
to be mated, to be loved.
Soon, it would finally be my reality.
I was so full of anticipation I felt like I could burst. Just wait, Octavia. Tonight, I’ll finally pour out everything I’ve been holding back. Every bit of love I’ve been fighting to give you… it will all be
yours.
The invited guests were already seated inside. It was almost time for me to take my place and wait for my bride when one of my men approached.
“Alpha, someone dropped this for you.”
He held out a bouquet and a small letter. I barely spared them a glance, too focused on straightening my tie to look good for my mate.
“What does it say?” I asked casually.
He unfolded the letter and read aloud, “Congratulations on your wedding. I hope you enjoy my gift.”
My head turned sharply toward him. “Give me that,” I ordered, my voice low.
He quickly handed it over. The message was exactly as he’d read it, nothing else. My gaze shifted
to the bouquet. That couldn’t be the gift the letter referred to. So what was?
A cold feeling crept down my spine.
I frowned deeply and lifted my head toward my men. They immediately straightened, sensing the shift.
“Call the guards I sent to pick up my mate,” I ordered.
But before they could move, my phone rang. One glance at the caller ID made my pulse spike. It

was one of the men sent for Octavia.

I answered slowly, dread pooling in my stomach. “Alpha…” came a strained, breathless voice on the other end, “I think your Luna has been kidnapped.

I only meant to catch a glimpse of the man of the hour before his big moment. They escorted me to the chamber where Maurice was meant to wait before entering the cathedral to tie the knot with his mate. But the moment I stepped inside, I knew something was off.
Maurice had his phone pressed to his ear, his shoulders rigid, and his men stood around him in full alert-tense, stiff, prepared for anything.
He snapped his head toward the door the second I walked in, his eyes blazing with a fury I rarely saw in him. But when he realized it was me, that intensity faltered-only slightly, but enough.
Something was very wrong.
No groom should look like that on the day of his wedding.
“Is something the matter?” I asked, stepping closer. Maurice looked composed on the outside, but
I could feel the nervous edge radiating off him. Spirits forbid, I hoped his mate hadn’t run off. That
kind of scandal could ruin a pack’s image.
“My mate has been kidnapped.”
Those were the first words out of his mouth.
My entire expression hardened. A name slipped out of me before I could stop it.
“Bella.”
Maurice froze, taking a small step back as his eyes locked with mine. “That’s not possible. She’s
with-”
“She was taken from her husband,” I cut in sharply, “by a man who is obsessed with her.”
The dread that washed over his face was immediate, thick, unmistakable.
“This is bad,” he muttered.
Then, before I could speak again, he rushed on, “Octavia is terrified of Bella. She nearly killed her.”
My eyes widened.
Damn it.
I knew it. I knew I had seen that girl somewhere before, even if I couldn’t place it at first.

She was the same girl…
The same girl Bella had left to die in my pack.
“We need to move fast,” I said sharply. Thank goodness I came here when I did. Before leaving my pack, I’d already put a spy on Pascal, and someone had also called earlier to warn me that they were heading toward Waterford Pack, a woman but I don’t know who it was.
I knew Bella would eventually show up, but I never imagined she would go as far as Kidnapping her
own brother’s mate.
I expected her to try ruining the wedding or causing the usual chaos she’s famous for-but this?
This was a bigger disaster than I had imagined.
Maurice lowered his phone, shoulders tense as he angrily shrugged off his coat. His jaw clenched hard, like he was barely holding himself together.
“Put your coat back on,” I ordered.
He whipped his head toward me, fury twisting his features. “You just said we need to move quickly, “he snapped.
I held his gaze. “Yes, but you’re not the one who’s going. Dylan and I are.”
I stepped closer, forcing him to meet my eyes.
“Octavia will be terrified,” he breathed out, voice tight with panic.
“I know,” I said, placing a steadying hand on his shoulder. “You’ll go out there and announce a slight delay to the ceremony. And I promise you-I will bring your mate back safely and in time. You will get to finish this day.”
Just then, my phone buzzed with a message from my men:
> “We saw Pascal’s convoy. They dragged a woman like they had kidnapped her and she was wearing a wedding gown, it does not look good.”
Maurice looked at me, swallowing hard. “I don’t-”
I cut him off gently.
“Trust me. You know I’d never let anything bad happen to you.”
