The Alpha's Chubby Obsession. novel Chapter 146

He walked in slowly, each step heavy enough to make the entire cafeteria tense. Instinctively, every

one of us bowed our heads. Even I did-it was automatic.

“I said,” Owen repeated, voice deeper now, “who threw that mashed potato on her?”

This time he wasn’t asking. He was commanding. And he definitely wasn’t joking.

After a long, painful silence, Ambrose slowly rose from his seat. Of course it was him. I wasn’t

surprised at all. He was Lara’s wannabe boyfriend-the one who acted tough but shrank whenever

real authority walked in. I’d heard she had told him to stay quiet because the future Alpha was

around. And when wants to woo Owen.

“It-it was me,” he stuttered, trembling so badly the tray in front of him rattled. “I just… wanted to

scare her.”

Someone yelled from the back, “Eww! Ambrose is peeing himself!”

All heads snapped toward his legs-

-and sure enough, a tiny wet patch was spreading.

Laughter exploded. Louder than before. Crueler.

Oh wow. He could actually get scared to the point of peeing his pants?

My eyes darted to Owen. He wasn’t laughing. He wasn’t even amused. His face was blank,

unreadable-until he lifted one hand.

Instant silence.

“You will go report yourself to the principal’s office. Immediately,” he said.

Ambrose’s face burned red. He bowed his head, humiliated, and hurried out of the cafeteria while

everyone watched.

Then Owen turned to me.

“Follow me.”

I didn’t hesitate. My legs moved quickly, ignoring the sticky mess drying on my skin. The room stayed quiet as we walked, the only sound echoing through the cafeteria being the sharp click of

our shoes.

But the moment we stepped out, the noise exploded behind us-murmurs, whispers, shocked

gasps.

We walked down the hallway, me keeping my head bowed beside him.

“You should clean yourself up,” he said gently.

I snapped my head up, looking at him. “Thank you… once again.”

I avoided saying his name because I wasn’t sure I should.

He shook his head a little. “No problem… uh-“.

He frowned slightly, trying to recall a name I realized I had never once told him.

I let out a small smile. “Aria,” I said softly.

His lips curled up in recognition.

“Aria,” he repeated, nodding once.

And that was the day the whole school found out, Aria-the girl everyone used to bully was the

future Alpha’s friend.

What came after that day was… surprising.

Suddenly, everyone wanted to be close to me. Everyone wanted to know how the future Alpha and

I became friends, as if I had some magical secret. People who never bothered to look in my

direction were now smiling like we’d known each other for years.

Instead of sticky things on my chair every morning, I found gifts-little boxes, snacks, ribbons, even

apology notes-each one signed with a name I didn’t even recognize.

Instead of people holding their noses, whispering “dirty pig,” or looking at me weirdly, they waved,

smiled, and greeted me like I was some important person.

Meh. I didn’t buy any of it.

But besides all that fake attention, something real changed-

I truly became friends with Owen.

Every morning when I arrived at school, he was already there… waiting for me. He’d wave excitedly

and call me over, and we’d walk together, talking about anything and everything.

Little by little, I stopped being afraid to speak. I stopped hiding. I started laughing.

And eventually, we talked freely-about classes, life, annoying teachers, future dreams. We moved

together like it was the most natural thing in the world.

We made new friends too-people who liked us for us. We hung out during lunch, played silly

games, skipped stones outside, and shared snacks. School became something I actually looked

forward to.

Days became weeks.

Weeks became months.

Months slid into years.

And just like that, we grew up.

Everyone in the pack knew there was only one person who could tell the future Alpha to sit down…

and he would actually listen.

Me.

People didn’t understand it-and honestly, neither did I. But that was just how we were.

That was how Owen and I became friends-

deep, unshakeable, unbreakable friends, until.

We were fifteen-almost sixteen-and I couldn’t wait to finally know who my mate would be after my

first shift. Actually, I still had two months to go… but Owen would turn sixteen in just five days. Five

days until he found his mate.

I sat by the window, relaxing as the warm sunlight hit my face. I didn’t look at him when I spoke.

“Do you think you’ll find out who your mate is that day?”

I could feel his eyes on me before he even answered.

“I don’t think it’ll matter,” he said quietly.

That made me turn to him, eyebrows raised. “And why would you say that?”

He exhaled, long and unsure. “Well, we can’t be so sure of anything.”

I didn’t like how dull his voice sounded, so I reached for the nearest book on the table and tossed it

at him.

“Why do you sound dull?” I said, trying to lighten the mood.

“Ouch,” he muttered dramatically-even though I barely touched him.

“You asked a question,” he added with a small laugh.

I shook my head, chuckling. His mood always flipped quickly with me.

After a moment, he leaned back and asked, “Aria… will you be there for my birthday party?”

I nodded instantly. “Yes. I won’t want to miss it.”

A smile stretched across his face. “Good. You better not miss it,” he teased.

I laughed, covering my mouth, warmth blooming in my chest.

His sixteenth birthday was coming. His mate was coming.

But I had no idea that everything was about to change.

Soon, the day finally came-and of course, I was invited. Sara, one of our closest friends, insisted on

doing my makeup. She said I “shouldn’t look plain when going to Owen’s birthday,” and I’d laughed

at her teasing.

But the truth was… something felt strange today.

For some odd reason, I’d been uneasy since I woke up. A little nervous. A little restless. And I

couldn’t explain why.

Today was important.
