Side Story 1

Aria

“There you go… clean it nicely. Eww, Aria is wiping off Lara’s juice again that poured on the floor”

Their voices scrape against my ears, the same mockery I’ve heard every day. I’m tired-tired of the

bullying, tired of being treated like dirt just because my family is broke. If things were different,

wouldn’t be here on my knees.

But these girls, these spoiled daughters of rich homes, they think having money makes them

royalty.

“When you’re done, come clean my shoes too,” Lara adds with that irritating smirk.

Something snaps in me right then.

Enough.

I rise slowly, pretending like I’m actually about to polish her shoes. She leans forward expectantly. And before she can blink, I lift the same towel I used on the floor and smack it right across her stupid smiling face and drag it all over.

She shrieks instantly. Her minions rush at me, grabbing my arms and yanking me away. They shove me hard; my back hits the ground, pain shooting up my spine. But honestly? The sting is nothing compared to the satisfaction boiling in my chest.

I grin. Actually grin.

Watching Lara’s horrified, speechless face feels like victory.

“You idiot! I’ll punish you now!” she spits, trembling with rage.

Punish me? Please. Whether I keep my head down or not, they always find a reason to gang up on

  1. So at least this time, I made it worth it.

They start toward me, ready to attack-

-but then a voice cuts through the hallway.

Everything freezes.

Lara stiffens, her minions halt mid-step. Slowly, she turns toward the voice, and her expression

instantly softens into a shaky smile.

I glance over my shoulder.

He’s standing there, looking straight at me where I’m still on the floor. His uniform blazer isn’t like ours; his is sleeker, richer-tailored in the expensive style only the elite can afford. The kind that screams money and power.

Before I can say anything, Lara rushes to speak first.

“Oh-Future Alpha Owen, you’re here,” she says, voice trembling like she’s suddenly the innocent

one.

Future… what?

My head snaps back to him, eyes wide.

Future Alpha? Owen?

What?

I’d heard rumors for weeks-that the Alpha’s son, the one who’d been homeschooled his entire life, was finally coming to our school. But nobody told me he was already here. Nobody told me this

was him.

He walks toward me with steady, confident steps, the kind that make the air shift around him.

When he stops right in front of me, he doesn’t look at Lara or her friends, he looks at me. And then, unexpectedly, he offers me his hand.

A small smile pulls at the corner of his lips.

My face heats up immediately. I’m sure I look ridiculous, blushing on the floor like some lost puppy, but who on earth would refuse the future Alpha? So I place my hand in his, feeling the warmth of his grip as he helps me up.

A chorus of disgust ripples from behind us.

“Eww, he’s holding her filthy hands with his own,” one of Lara’s friends whispers loudly.

If Lara’s eyes had actual power, I’d be ashes on the floor right now.

I stand, quickly dipping my head in a small bow.

“Thank you… ehhh…”

I freeze. I don’t know what to call him. Sir? Future Alpha? We’re almost the same age, but his status makes everything confusing.

“Owen,” he says softly before I can embarrass myself further. “Just call me Owen.”

I lift my head, meeting his eyes. He’s still smiling, just a little, but enough to make my heart skip in my chest.

“Owen,” I repeat quietly.

And that small smile of his widens-just enough to make something flutter deep inside me.

Claird

I shook my head internally. I shouldn’t be thinking like this. My father had made his rule very clear,

no boyfriends until I found my mate. And besides, we were in middle school. What was I even blushing for?

“You don’t understand, she’s not the one at fault-” Lara starts, stepping closer like she suddenly

wants to defend herself.

But Owen turns his head sharply toward her, and she freezes mid-step.

“It doesn’t look that way to me,” he says, voice low and edged with authority. “Not when I see four

people going at one person.”

Lara hiccups like a child scolded by a parent.

He’s facing her, so I can’t see his expression, but judging by how she’s trembling, it must not be pleasant. Still, a tiny worry twists in me-if he scares her too much, she’ll only take it out on me the

moment he’s gone.

Then his head snaps back in my direction, eyes locking onto mine

“If they ever try this again-any of them-if you see me anywhere, tell me.”

Gasps echo behind us.

My relief is instant. I nod quickly. Thank goodness. Finally, a shield strong enough to make them

back off.

“Thank you, Owen,” I say, trying to sound calm.

He gives me one solid nod and turns to walk away, steps echoing down the hall until he disappears

around the corner.

For a second, everything is silent.

Then Lara’s eyes fill with tears, just like that, as if someone flipped a switch and she bursts into

loud, dramatic sobs.

“My very first impression is ruined because of you!” she cries, pointing a shaky finger at me before

spinning around and running off.

Her friends scramble after her, comforting her, whispering nonsense about how it wasn’t her fault.

I just stand there watching them go.

Side Story 1

Like I care.

From that day onward, Lara and her little crew never bothered me again. For the first time, I

actually lived my life normally-no whispers behind my back, no tripping in the hallways, no

snatching my books. It felt… peaceful.

But peace doesn’t last long at this school.

I was in the cafeteria one afternoon, eating quietly like always, when something cold and sticky

suddenly slapped against my face. I froze.

Mashed potatoes.

Creamy, lumpy mashed potatoes slowly slid down my cheek.

The school cafeteria erupted into loud, ugly laughter. People slapped tables, pointed, snickered, everyone finding it absolutely hilarious.

I pushed my chair back and stood slowly. My heart pounded with anger. I turned in a full circle,

scanning the room, but whoever threw it had already hidden among the crowd.

I was furious, but helpless. What could I do? I opened my mouth to speak, but someone else spoke

first interrupting me.
