Side Story 21-2
Clain
“The alpha needs an heir now, and you’re a little too young for him. I hope you understand him” the
beta said, then turned and walked away without another word.
That left just Alan, me, and Mr Sinclair. Alan let out a long, frustrated sigh and disappeared too, leaving the room eerily quiet. I searched for a place to sit, my chest heavy with irritation, and M
Sinclair stayed standing, his eyes fixed on me.
“When you get home, gather your things. I’ll give you the money you requested. I need to get back to work,” he said, his tone clipped, final.
So that was it. He was telling me I was on my own. He reached into his pocket, pulled a few bucks, and tossed it to me. I watched it land at my feet, my hands gripping the edge of the chair as he spoke “take a cab home, my I’ll call my wife to get there soon, she’ll hand over the money to you, you can leave then” he walked out, leaving me alone in the office.
Fuck. My birthday was completely ruined. And I’d been rejected before even shifting into my wolf. My hands clenched into fists, my teeth gritted. I understood the beta’s reasoning-if the alpha were closer to my age, it would have made sense-but six years older? And considering I just turned sixteen it would be so awkward for him to touch me in that way so I could give him a child. Still, it
didn’t make the rejection hurt any less.
I let out a long breath, forcing myself to calm down. I bent to pick up the cash, the cold bills cutting against my palm. Slowly, I stood, the weight of everything pressing down on me. Birthday gone, rejection given, and yet… I was still standing.
I turned, my gaze lingering on the closed doors of the office, as I got up and then made my way out. Every step was measured, my mind already racing through plans, thoughts, and the storm of emotions swirling inside me. This wasn’t the end. Not for me.
As I began walking out the same way we came, I heard Alan’s voice call after me. “Clara.” I stopped
and turned, watching him approach.
“But that doesn’t explain the blood on you,” he said as he reached, his eyes scanning me with a mix
of confusion and something else I couldn’t name.
I let out a long sigh. “That’s because Pamela was going to kill the child, and she bled out. You should go see her, if you care at all,” I said, my voice flat.
He looked me up and down, face twisted with disbelief and frustration. “Why didn’t the fucking
baby just die?”
I felt it strike deep in my gut. All this chaos, and that’s all he could say? “Why don’t you man up a bit,

you fool? Thank goodness the alpha had given his blessing in the marriage,” I snapped, anger lacing every word.
Clair
He stepped closer, sneering. “Yeah, you see, with this side of yours, Clara, it’s the reason you can
never be loved. Imagine getting rejected even before you shifted.”
Something inside me snapped. My hands shot to his neck, and for a moment, he felt weightless in my grip as I lifted him off the ground.
His eyes widened in terror, his hands clawing at mine, struggling to free himself. Then I heard Beta Randy’s voice from not too far away. “Bloody hell, let him go!”
