Side Story 26-1
Randy
If looks could kill, Abel and I would’ve dropped dead on the spot. I still can’t wrap my head around how an uncle can carry so much hatred for his own nephew. But then again-greed makes
monsters out of men.
Klaus isn’t someone to underestimate. The title of alpha has sunk so deep into his skull that he’s willing to crawl lower than anyone would imagine. And he doesn’t even try to hide his hunger for power. Always trying to challenge Abel, the rightful heir, as if he has any chance. If only he
understood the fire he keeps poking at.
People don’t call Abel “fire” for nothing. The man burns-quietly, dangerously-just like that red hair of his. Most won’t ever notice because he keeps it hidden. But the goddess definitely sees it, and that’s why she gave him someone who matches that fire. With the two of them together, this pack will be unstoppable. That’s why when Abel was planning to reject her earlier, I was praying to every
spirit I knew that he wouldn’t go through with it.
I understand why he wants an heir. He needs to cement his legacy, win over the elders and the parliament. But he’s still young. There’s time for that. There are other ways to get those old fools on his side. And honestly, I don’t even know why he tries to win their approval when he already told me that anyone who crosses him will be killed. If it were me, I’d crush every single one standing in my way. But Abel? He always has this irritating sense of reason. Sometimes it makes me wonder if
he’s even wicked at all.
But I know him better than anyone. I’ve seen him fight. I’ve seen the way he kills-cleanly,
mercilessly, leaving no trace behind. Survival molded him into what he is. Assassins keep coming
for him-sent by the same person we all know-but to Abel, it’s nothing but a game. He enjoys
watching them walk straight to their own deaths. That’s the only reason Klaus isn’t rotting in the
dungeon yet. He still struts around like he’s untouchable, not knowing his end is closer than he
could ever imagine.
Abel stepped into the hallway as I walked toward him.
“She’s asleep, Randy. While I deal with that headache, make sure she wakes up to a bath and food. She weighs less than she should,” he muttered, eyeing his hands like her weight bothered him.
I laughed a little. “For someone who wanted to reject her earlier, you sure care a lot.”
“Don’t push it, Randy. That girl is my mate,” he said sharply.
I nodded. “And the rejection your cousin is supposed to do tonight with his mate?”

He sighed, then gave a small smile. “His mate is already on the way. And as for my uncle… he has
no idea who he’s dealing with. But make sure my mate is okay when she wakes. Keep an eye on
hèr.”
He patted my shoulder and walked off toward his office, his big frame filling the hall.
Whatever is going to happen in that office… all I can do is hope it doesn’t turn into a fight. But Abel? He won’t stoop down to Klaus’s level. That much I’m sure of.

My head throbbed painfully, and when I opened my eyes, the bright light hit me so hard I had to shut them again. I opened them slowly a second time, letting my vision adjust. I realized I was lying on a soft bed, warm and comfortable, even though just a little while ago I had been in the woods,
