Side Story 31-1

When he straightened, his breathing was all uneven and ragged. It made me secretly happy-I
could actually do that to him, the guy who always acted like nothing could touch him, like he was
untouchable.
Well, Desmond, I’ve got you to thank for this, I thought. He let go of me right away and took a step
back. I straightened too. He was looking like he’d just done something he shouldn’t and totally
forbidden. To break the heavy air, I asked, “How’s Randy?”
Uh-oh, bad move-I realized it too late. “Why are you asking about Randy?” he shot back. Guess
didn’t switch topics like I thought. “Well, is there a reason I shouldn’t?” I said, trying to defend
myself.
“So you’d rather him come to you than me?” He was being weird now, but I liked it. Oh, so he gets
jealous fast. Now I’ve got that over him.
“I didn’t say that,” I said, “but you always send him to me, so I figured he’d be the one showing up,” I
answered straight.
I watched his fists clench and unclench. “I’m hungry,” I threw out. “Oh, you think you can change the
subject just like that?” he said. What’s with him? Did he miss me that bad? Or is it his wolf acting
out?
Okay, I see. Should I tease him a little?
I walked right up to him, bolder this time, and saw his throat bob. Yeah, I heard it again-that fast
heartbeat. It is definitely his. The same guy who says he won’t consummate the marriage because
I’m sixteen. Like it’d even be wrong, when for werewolves, sixteen’s the right age, bloody hell that’s
why we shift then and are mated, but for him the age gap is a barrier.
“Abel, your face is redder than usual, and stop hyperventilating,” I said. His eyes went wide.
One second I’m standing close to him, the next his hand grabs me, pulls me in, and he whispers,”
Goddess, I hate myself,” before his lips crash onto mine.
This wasn’t the quick, innocent quick kiss from before. This was raw. His tongue pushed in, one fast move, and I let it. I didn’t know what I was doing, but instinct kicked in-I wrapped my arms
around his neck.
His tongue went deeper, tasting, licking, wanting more. Breathing frantically as if he wanted more and couldn’t get enough of this.
I didn’t even notice when my fingers dug into his soft, thick hair. My feet weren’t on the ground

anymore as the kiss got wilder.
Then, like he was fighting himself, he pulled back. We were both breathing hard. He rested his forehead on my neck, my feet finally touching the ground. When he spoke, his voice was rough: You’ll have to stay here the whole two years,” he breathed. “To keep my sanity.”
Cla
I let out a small, involuntary chuckle, and he immediately straightened, his posture rigid, as if trying to regain control. He turned sharply, but not before I caught a glimpse of his lips-slightly parted.. flushed, looking like I had devoured him whole. The sight made a small thrill ripple through me.
“We should go,” he said, his voice low but firm, and I followed him out of the small, closed room Surprisingly, he didn’t rush ahead as I expected; instead, he matched my pace, walking beside me, and together we entered the larger hall where everyone was gathered. Some were busy greeting visiting family members, others were interacting with their mates, and the buzz of activity filled the
space.
Then, out of nowhere, that same female lecturer from before appeared again, her smile bright as ever at first. “Oh-Alpha Abel,” she called out, stepping forward. But when we both turned to face her, the brightness on her face faltered, and a subtle panic flickered in her eyes. Meanwhile, a smug smile crept onto my own face. She noticed it, hesitated, and quickly looked away, like a deer
caught in the headlights.
