Yes, see how disheveled he looks, how flustered he appears-thank me for that. That was exactly the point of my expression: back off.
“Yes, Miss Rod?” he replied, his tone flat, unaware of the electricity hanging in the air.
“The principal…um, he asked to see you before you leave,” she said, her voice trembling slightly as if all the air had been sucked out of her lungs.
He only nodded, seemingly oblivious, and I knew exactly what had unsettled her. Miss Rod clearly had a crush on him, but tough luck-he’s mine.
“I’ll see the principal after I’m done with my wife,” he said sharply, and I watched the life seemingly drain from her, her shoulders slump slightly. Perfect. Good. Know your place.
I could practically smell my scent on him, filling the space between us, and I could tell that’s what made her stomach tighten with dread.
Just then, my attention shifted. I caught Desmond staring at me from across the hall. And it wasn’t just him-his father was there, and all five of his sisters had come with him. “That’s rude,” Abel muttered beside me, his tone clipped, clearly ignoring Miss Rod entirely.
“That’s his family,” I said to him, giving him a pointed look. “Let’s go greet them.” I could feel his eyes on me, still tense and cautious, but I didn’t let him respond. “He’s just a friend,” I added, emphasizing my point as we made our way toward Desmond and his family. Miss Rod remained behind us, invisible, irrelevant, as if she had never existed.
When we finally reached Desmond and his family, all of them immediately bowed to Abel, and we exchanged polite greetings. Then Abel tilted his head toward Desmond and added, almost casually but with a warning beneath it, “Keep taking care of my wife… but from a little distance.”
The way he said it made Desmond actually gasp, his father’s eyes flew wide, and meanwhile, I
couldn’t stop the smile that slowly spread across my face as his sisters giggled.
I still couldn’t believe that just six months ago, I couldn’t stand this man. Funny how a mate bond
can twist everything around. This was the first real conversation we’d had since our argument, and
seeing him so openly possessive of me-claiming me, calling me his wife in front of everyone, practically announcing stay away-felt new… and thrilling.
Soon, visitation time came to an end.
“I’ll go meet the principal before I leave,” he said, and I nodded at him with a small smile.
“Okay, till next time,” I said lightly, and he frowned.

“Why do I feel like you’re trying to push me away?” he asked, but I simply shook my head.

“Bye, Abel,” I said and turned to go. Something in me already knew he wouldn’t kiss me goodbye-
and of course, he didn’t.
Later, I was back in my room since it was already nighttime. My fingers drifted up to my lips as the memories replayed in my head. I curled into a ball on my bed, giggling uncontrollably. I hadn’t
known I would enjoy today that much.
That was when I heard footsteps-two of them-stop outside my door. My nose picked up their
scent instantly, especially one in particular, my ears catching every sound. I heard a male voice
