Side Story 40-2
“It’s someone’s birthday,” he said.
I clapped my hands, grinning.

He set the cake on the side table and leaned down, brushing his lips against mine. “Happy birthday,
Clara,” he whispered.
“Thank you, Abel,” I murmured back.
He kissed me again, deeper this time, until I had to pull away laughing. “Not now. At least let me taste my cake first.” I tried to slip out of his hold.
He didn’t let me go.
“Oh, now you want me to let you escape?” he said, tightening his arms around me.
Haughed, pushing at his chest playfully, but he only captured my lips again-slow, heated, full of
promise.
“Tonight, Clara,” he murmured against my mouth, “you have no idea what I’ve planned for you.”
And I realized then-I didn’t want to wait at all.
It was the best birthday I had ever had. I spent the morning entirely with Abel, eating cake in bed, laughing together, and simply enjoying his presence. He had canceled all his meetings just for me, and I couldn’t stop smiling. Every glance, every touch, filled me with warmth and joy, a feeling I
hadn’t realized I’d wanted so much.
“Come out, I have a gift for you,” Abel said suddenly, his voice playful.
I followed him out of the room, my curiosity piqued. “A gift?” I echoed, wondering what he had
planned.
The moment I stepped outside, I froze. My breath caught in my throat. In front of me stood a massive bouquet of flowers, taller than I’d ever seen. Each blossom seemed brighter than the last,
arranged perfectly in Abel’s signature style.
“Happy birthday!” Randy shouted from where he was standing, his grin wide. Beside him, his mate. beamed, her joy mirrored in her sparkling eyes.
“That’s not all, Clara,” Abel said, pointing ahead with that teasing smirk that made my heart skip a
beat.
I turned my gaze, and my eyes widened. One by one, people I hadn’t expected began to emerge

from the garden paths: Eve, Douglas, the Edgars, and all the friends I had made during my years at
the White Tower.
“Happy birthday, Clara!” they shouted in unison.
Tears welled up in my eyes. Without thinking, I ran toward them, unable to contain the wave of happiness swelling in my chest. Abel chuckled quietly behind me, watching me hug everyone tightly, my laughter mingling with their cheers.
Eve embraced me with a squeeze so tight it made me laugh and cry at the same time. “I’m so happy for
you, Clara,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
I couldn’t stop crying. This-this love, this thoughtfulness, this presence of people I cared about- was the most precious gift anyone could have given me.
The whole day was spent laughing, sharing stories, and enjoying each other’s company. My cheeks ached from genuine smiles, and my heart felt lighter than it had in years.
I had turned eighteen. I was officially an adult. I had completed my studies to become a Luna, and a new chapter of my life was beginning. Soon, I would lose my virginity-but that thought only made me blush and glance around for Abel.
When I spotted him across the room, his eyes locked onto mine. He mouthed the words, “In your room, now.” I smiled, thanked everyone for the party-food and drinks already flowing, even though I’d insisted on nothing grand. But this was better.
The celebrant-me, of course-sneaked out of my own party. As I headed to my room, Abel appeared, grabbing my hand and leading me toward his. “My room shall be yours from now on,” he
said breathlessly.
The door clicked shut behind us as we stepped in hurriedly, and he crashed his lips against mine in
a hungry kiss. He’d kissed me plenty before, but this was another level-demanding, pinning me to
the door. Our breaths mingled; moans escaped me that I didn’t know I could make.
When he finally broke away, his mouth claimed my neck, kissing and sucking the mark he’d left
there. Heat pooled between my thighs. Then he did something new, something that stole the air from my lungs: he grabbed my breast.
I groaned as he squeezed. “Let’s take this off,” he rasped breathlessly. Before I knew it, he straightened and tore my clothes from my body. My knees weakened under his gaze as my breasts spilled free. His eyes burned crimson, his breathing ragged. “I want to suck on those.” Hearing him say it like that, I ached for him even more.
He scooped me into his arms, his mouth crashing back to mine as we kissed fiercely. He carried
